Libya: More Threats from Gaddafi as He Speaks Again

This post is part of our special coverage Libya Uprising 2011.

Colonel Muammar Gaddafi seems to be making the most of being in the limelight, after coalition forces started air strikes against Libya, and has appeared on Libyan State television again. He spoke a few hours ago, making similar threats.

Repeating his same rhetoric, he threatened a long war, said the coalition would be defeated and that his forces would emerge victorious. Tweeps, who tweeted his speech, said Gaddafi, who has ruled Libya for 42 years, also stressed on religion, in a bid to gain sympathy from Muslims around the world. Many compared this attempt to Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein's last few days in power, before US-led coalition forces ousted him from power.

Libyans joined the Arab spring revolution wave, staging protests against Gaddafi and his regime, beginning on February 16. Here are some of the reactions from Twitter on Gaddafi's speech and the war on Libya:
Elwahs (Ar) tweets:

Libya #gaddafi #feb17 #17feb #egypt
“Gaddafi to the coalition: ‘We will defeat you and we are inevitably victorious.’ He really is mad and his death certificate should say that.”

@SultanAlQassemi: That was the first time I hear Gaddafi stress so much on religion, he is trying to win the sympathy of Muslims.

@SSWOLFENSTEINSS: @SultanAlQassemi Just like saddam , on his last days in power he started praying in public on state T.V. #feb14 #feb17 #saudi

@riki_epe: Gaddafi: We will not leave this land. You are delusional. Benghazi will revolt once they realize this is an imperialistic attack

@amazighlibya: #Gaddafi describes French-British-US air strikes as a “new Crusader aggression” and “a new Hitlerism” in interview with #Libyan State TV

@WicksieSnr: Gaddafi claims weapons stores opened to the people, doubt it, they would most likely use them against him.

@SALEMICIOUS: FLASH: Gaddafi says “We will not leave our land and we will liberate it”, says Libya is preparing for a long war

@the_daily_rag: #World News! #Gaddafi tells #Libyan #TV that #USA, #UK, & #France are criminals & that #Libya is prepping for a long war

Yasser Thabet (Ar) writes:

يقول القذافي إن التحالف “سيسقط كما سقط هتلر ونابوليون وموسوليني”. الطغاة هم الذين يسقطون، لا تقرأ التاريخ بالمقلوب! #Gaddafi #Libya
“Gaddafi says that the coalition would be defeated just like Hitler, Napoleon and Mussolini were. Tyrants are the ones who fall. Do not misinterpret history!”

@SalAliHashim: Gaddafi: *Forever Alone Face* http://twitpic.com/4be1fw

@PatrioticLibyan: Gaddafi speaks about victory. We say yes, we will prevail. The Libyan people will prevail against you and your murderous clan.

@maguirenumber6: The coalition's first target should be the Libyan State TV station building to stop the propaganda machine. Then #Gaddafi's palace #Libya

@Writeway007: ‘We’ were selling arms to Libya only 6 weeks ago, it's amazing how hypocritical the international community is
