Romania: Elections and Gazprom

Kosmopolito writes that in Romania, “[t]he fight against corruption is ongoing and is progressing according to schedule: endless” – and as the country prepares for the parliamentary election on Nov. 30, “[m]ost likely it will not vote”: “Those who will vote, will have to choose pretty much the same thing. There is no specific difference among the candidates. The same usual suspects.” Transatlantic Politics reports that “Romanian Liberal Party – currently in government – is flirting with the idea to get a lucrative deal with Gazprom and a quick gain, even if it means to sacrifice the country’s energy independence on the long run.”
