What some shamelss Thai has done about the Preah Vihear Temple is ridiculous and shamelss. I don’t matter if the Thai just fight each other, but they should not take Cambodia as a scapegoat to for political purpose. The Thai opposition and military should have used a more suitable excuse to make another coup against Thaksin’s ally. Groundlessly and unfairly accusing a small and poor nation taking your land is already ridiculous,bully.
It is undeniable that Preah Vihear belongs to Cambodia, territerially, architecturally and historically. The Thai shamelessly and illegally took control of the temple just after The French pulled out of Cambodia. They lost the case in internal court. They should learn their mistake and eat the humble pie rather than shamelessly attempt to take it back. It has been 46 years since 1962! Cambodia has suffered enough from Thai aggression and invasion. Review the history: how much Cambodia lose to Thailand, who the Thai are, what your origin is, where is your mother land, ungrateful Thai???
What a shame! You say Cambodia need approval from Thailand and insist that the temple is jointly managed while it undeniably belongs to Cambodia??? No such case on earth.

Most of Thais are ignorant about History and just believe what Politicians say (same as in Cambodia). I live in Thailand but was previously in Cambodia for many years. Preah Vihear is KHMER (and not Hindu as Thai Policians say to avoid to recognize the ruins as khmers) no doubt about that.
But please please also remember how a few years ago everything went wrong in Cambodia about rumors, false information about Thailand. I praise Cambodia for controlling the situation until now, and I just hope they would not let any rumor make the Public crazy. We all know how the Population is vulnerable. Well, I’m not Thai and I’m not Cambodian.
This is a difficult issue and I don’t want to offend anyone. However, Thailand is fighting a losing issue. The 1962 decision awarded the temple complex to Cambodia based on the border.
On top of that, Preah Vihear is a Khmer temple built during the height of the Khmer Empire in the 9th century. The Thai Empire did not come into full power until the 15th century. It is also in the Khmer architectural style. I think there is no way that Preah Vihear will be awarded to Thailand.
But I have to say that Thailand has some other amazing, incredible sites that are more beautiful than Preah Vihear. Ayutthaya is just one among many. Thailand is an amazingly beautiful place, and has so many great and beautiful temples to be proud of. That is why so many tourists from all over go to Thailand.
So please don’t be angry if one temple goes to Cambodia. Thailand has so MANY wonderful temples and historic sites to be amazed by.
Sorry for those who think that Preah Vihear incident is a international issue, you should wake up from longest dream, and face the fact that, it is not about Thai or Cambodian, it s about Riches and Poors, this incident is just part of the deal about devlopment of Cambodia promising islands and tourist spots. The Cambodians deserve to manage the Temple because of their efforts and persistence. Thai government failed to do in the past and present. Congratulation, if you win. I will not whine about this matter again.
Now Thailand will be a much more better place when all the corrupted Thai politicians who involved in giving the Temple rights away for their self interests will be jailed for life ore executed for treason. Today, Cambodia wanted Khmer Preah Vihear Temple to be protected by UNESCO, ignorant Thai people, ignorant Thai foreign Minister, ignorant Thai judges are all flip flop on the Preah Vihear issue over the international court decision.

My only concern is that certain Khmers and Thais are taking the issue to their respective extremes of nationistic sentiments. Each claims has some merits, but there is also a lot of misperception and misunderstandings in the above comments. Each trying to make overt generalization of the other. While some Khmers may think that no Thai would ever acknowledge Thai culture’s adoption of a lot of aspects of Khmer culture, have learned Thai/Khmer history carefully, or would not give up territorial claims on Cambodia, some Thai may, on the other hand, think that ALL Khmers are ’stupid’ in a way that make them behave like the rioters who burned down the Thai embassy or whatever… The truth is these are false generalization that only describe a small number of people. The temple of Preah Vihear is hyperpoliticised by the Thai opposition party. Inscription of the temple into the world heritage list benefits both parties (Thai and Cambodians) given more tourists will come to visit both countries. We should put economic interests ahead of other things!

Preah Vihear temple belongs to Cambodia, because this temple was constructed in 11th century by Khmer king. As we know Khmer Empire was great in the past and Siam or Thai has just imigrated in the Sukhothai in 13th century. So Siam ought to claim this ancent temple belongs to them. One more the IJC recognised this temple belongs to Cambodia.

Long before, we as humanoids used to live without borderlines or territories of nations. I think we should not argue on the past or origin of any race here. Pra vihear and other stone ruins in Thailand have been acknowledged by the Thai that they are of the Kmares. But as we now have established the territories acknowledged by international communities these civilization ruins happened to place in Thai territory. Pra Vihere was supposed to be mapped in Thai territory if the French at that time had followed the watershed rules. That’s why what the Thai want to protest was about the mapping—not because of the originality of Pra Vihere should have belonged to the Thai. Now that past had sit for many years without this sentiment why we are now fighting again? But when the world court ordered the temple belonging to Cambodia, Thailand was angry. 10 years past, Thailand did not find any proof and did not protest against Cambodia.

Thailand never respects the world court and Thailand never respects the UNESCO decision. I don think we should waste time arguing who owns Preah Vihear. It belongs to Cambodia in any case. The only way that Thais could take the temple is to plunder it again using force (an I don think they dare to do that in the 21st century). Preah Vihear case, diplomatically, legally, we are advantage of Thailand. I even think that Cambodian government should not send troops the temple at all. Us Cambodian need to stand up for ourselves more, especially in this situation. We have proof that this temple and even the land belong to us. The question is how much do we love our country and our people. We can be upset but if we don’t unite and do something about it, what is our reason for getting upset. As for me, I’m focusing in school so that I can go back one day to help our country. We sell our land to outsider and our neighbor is stealing our land everyday. I think it is clearly proved that Prasat Preash Vihear is belonged to Cambodia since the International court of Justice had also decided in 1962 and more than this recently is classified as the world heritage registered and reconized by the UNESCO. I like ur ideas to some extent. I am not a theorist or political scientist; I like to get to the main point/ the real world. You didn’t use the word Cold War, but ur whole arguement clearly applied the theories. I wish you would have been more well-rounded, not focusing to much on geopolitics. The real world is much more complicated than those theories. I study business, but I try to avoid focusing only on the business side in my arguement.
It seems to me that you are still talking about war/fighting and that Cambodia should not go. Yes it’s true that we should not go to war with the Thias or we will be trapped. What i meant is that we have many other ways to settle the dispute and should not keep mum although we are weaker. My guess is that there won be any war happen. It is just a psychological game. Don u think so?
U should have used the Cambodian case in the 1970s than Rwanda. It is an unforgettable event and grave mistake for us. However, i don think it could be applied to this situation. It depends on the situation/time frame. The solution is to try to balance between diplomacy and military force, and i think the Cambodian gov’t has failed in both cases. Just one example: recently Korea recalled its ambassador to Japan and lodged a strong protest just because Japan said an island it controls used to belong to Japan. The Cambodian gov’t and somehow Cambodian people are not really mature. When they react, they do it in a wrong way, but when they try to be patient, they are too quiet that they Thais could bully again and again.

Well first i am Cambodian, born and raise there. I love my country as well what you guys, Thai, love your own.
It has been long recognized historically and legally the temple and its surroundings land are belonging to Cambodia, please read the 1962 Court Verdict.
It will be a catastrophe if there is war between both countries, Cambodia and Thailand, and it is not gonna be end in just a month or a year, but will be a lot longer. Many lives will be vanished, both civilian and the soldiers. The poor local people and the whole countries, who expect the greatest business opportunity, will suffer the most.
Don’t even down grade one nation by your super power weapons. Even though Cambodia don’t have those such kind of modern military equipments, but we are legally brave and strong enough to protect our homeland. We don’t want War because we have been through it for almost three decades, and we have suffered enough. However Cambodian will never bow their heads for any foreign countries to invade us.
As an example in the Southern part of your homeland, how much have you, innocent Thai, been suffering from just a small group of insurgent? Does your super power weapons can down grade the violence, nothing you can do it, but about 3000 lives have reward for it.
I don’t think most of you want to have another war between two full size countries which I believe it may claim many thousand innocent lives.

The hot event which was the key point while only one week left, the Cambodian national election will be held for the fourth term. We, Cambodian, hold a grudge and do hate Thai invasion, considering as Thai army force’s invasion over Cambodia territory at Preah Vihear temple is a shameful activity and hatred ! Thai army force’s invasion is to violate the international law and to demonstrate over sovereignty and territory invasion of the neighbor country. Thai army force warmed as their barbaric activities over UNESCO and threatened to the membership country of this organization which has listed Preah Vihear temple as the world heritage . Thai army force seems not to know that all of their commissions like that can cause Thailand, which is a developed country and has a good relationship with the neighbor country, to be disgraced.
Do all of their activities only just want to swallow the ancient temple or look down on a neighbor country? Preah Vihear temple, which is our Khmer ancestor’s treasure, contructed luxuriously since 9 centuries and it is our Khmer culture civilization and for general humanization, is now being threatened barbarically from Thai army force. We are Cambodian-young generation would like to swear and determine to protect our territory and fight back all their invasion in which ways it is and well-maintain our ancient treasure forever.

I am surprise to hear that one of the 3 tresspassers was a monk. I thought monks were suppose to be kind, have compassion,let go all material things. Why would this Thai monk involved in a protest? And I saw many Thai monks in the news claimed that Preah Vihear belong to Thai. Why would Thai say Preah Vihear belong to Thai?

When Cambodia reported that Thai soldier bandits violated the Khmer territory, the Thai govt refused to admit it and kept saying those Thai soldiers were not inside the Khmer soil, but on the Thai soil. And then, a Thai solider who couldn’t read the landmine sign in Khmer and in English “Dangerous mine” he stepped on the landmine inside of Cambodia and blew up himself losing a leg.
The Thai govt continued to ignore that and when the world press asked the Thai govt, so Thais put the mine inside the Thai soil to blow up their own soldier????

Let’s go to ICJ. I think this time Thailand will will be likely to appeal/propose for using the site as an “international peace park”. No smoking, only non petroleum transportation in the peace park (pollution free), electricity produced by wind and solar means, no pubs or bars, and site’s incomes used only for education funds on both countries. I think this idea will be happily supported by many countries.
Then focus each other attention on the doomed internal affairs. Do it before the relocation of poor Khmer who were forced out of their houses to Pra Viharn’s vicinity which will be renamed the kingdom of Cambodia, a little brother country of HUSENIA’S KINGDOM.

It is true that everyone should love their own country. However, when we are too nationalistic, it will prevent us from having logical, rational thinking. Moreover, it will bring nothing but hatred, revenge, conflict between one and another. It is ok for us Khmer and Thai to know and learn about our past, the fact that v used to be enemy. But isn’t it normal? In the past, there were wars and invasions everywhere not between khmer and Thai only. Why are you guys so resentful about it?
Let us all Khmer and Thai understand and acknowledge the past, and work together to solve this misunderstanding and conflict, for the sake of peace and development. Not just barking and spitting curse words to one another like this.
Regarding Preah Vihear issue, I wouldnt blame Thai people for thinking like this. Their misunderstanding, I think, stem from the course book that is widely taught. But the khmer should know that our course book in primary and high school is biased as well. you will know about this when u compare a history record written by a Khmer, a Thai. They used different kind of feeling toward one issue. And you can compare the two written texts to the third one whose author is someone other than Khmer and Thai. I have done it already! You two (Khmer and Thai) should try.
Finally, to all my khmer and Thai friends, I appeal to all of you please do not hate each other. We should end this quarrel. And let us discuss together in this online forum discuss with respect and peace ways to tackle the problems, not who to blame for the problem.

If you look at Thai history closely, Thais never learn something from Khmers or never listen to Khmers, but to create by their own Thais despite the true fact that Khmer Empire ruled SEA long before Thailand ever existed.
It seams to me that Khmers never existed at all in Thai history and that’s leaded the problem between Cambodia and Thailand today.
