On Sunday, October 21, Peruvians were counted as part of the National Census. However, with such a massive undertaking, problems would surely arise. Bloggers reported inexperienced census-takers, a lack of security for census workers, and the fuss over the lack of transportation.

Peru: How the Media Handled the Allegations Against Toledo

A Peruvian Congressman made allegations against former President Alejandro Toledo that he was involved in a rape of a young woman. Even though subsequent contradictory statements from the alleged victim and witnesses have not proven that Toledo did or did not commit the crime, the Peruvian press was quick to cast judgment. Peruvian bloggers took notice that Toledo seems to receive special treatment from the media, and this latest allegation was one more opportunity to place him on the front pages.
