The Castan Centre for Human Rights Law, part of Melbourne's prestigious Monash University, has launched a new video series — ‘Have You Got That Right?‘ It is named after Ron Castan, a barrister and human rights advocate who was senior counsel in the groundbreaking indigenous land rights Mabo case.

Have You Got That Right? is an innovative series of videos answering important human rights questions quickly, clearly and in a way that won’t put you to sleep.

The project will be broken into a number of 10-episode series, each with a different theme. Series one blends comedy with serious academic content, while series two will be interview-based.

Each season will have 10 episodes. ‘What are Human Rights?’ and ‘Marriage Equality’ are now online with eight more to follow in the first series.

Each video has very useful additional information about the law and a collection of excellent resources.

Future season 1 episodes will address surveillance, euthanasia, legal aid, right to vote, environment, and corporations. The videos and their support materials have international application.

Global Voices has an ongoing connection with the Castan centre. Sami Ben Gharbia, founding editor of Global Voices Advocacy, was a keynote speaker at their Human Rights Law Conference in July 2012. I attended as a citizen journalist on behalf of GV and my video is available here.

In 2014, GV Board member and Director for International Freedom of Expression at the Electronic Frontier Foundation Jillian York also addressed the annual conference. The video of her session, ‘Internet Spying: The Impact on Societies’, is here.
