Israeli Army Whistle-Blower Gets Arrested After Posting ‘Israeli Troops Killed Gaza Civilians in Revenge’ on Facebook

Eran Efrati

Eran Efrati

Former combat soldier and company sergeant of the Israeli army turned whistle-blower Eran Efrati, aged 28, was arrested by the Israeli authorities and questioned concerning his research regarding the use of illegal weapons in Gaza.

On Tuesday, July 29, Efrati announced on Facebook that he received information from sources within the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) revealing what he claims to be the real reason for the Shuja'iyya massacre which occurred nine days prior on July 20: namely that civilians were targeted and killed by Israeli soldiers as punishment for the death of soldiers in their units.

In recent weeks I was on the border of Gaza and getting reports from soldiers in the Gaza Strip who leak information out to me. I am in the process of publication of two big stories in major U.S. newspapers, but there are some things I can share with you right now: Soldiers in two different units inside Gaza leaked information about the murdering of Palestinians by sniper fire in Shuja'iyya neighborhood as punishment for the death of soldiers in their units. After the shooting on the Israeli armored personnel carriers, which killed seven soldiers of the Golani Brigade, the Israeli army carried out a massacre in Shuja'iyya neighborhood. A day after the massacre, many Palestinians came to search for their relatives and their families in the rubble. In one of the videos uploaded to YouTube, a young Palestinian man Salem Shammaly calls the names of his family and looking for them between the ruins when he is suddenly shot at in his chest and falls down. A few seconds after that, there are two additional shootings from snipers into his body, killing him instantly. Since the video was released, there was no official response from the IDF spokesperson. Today I can report that the official command that was handed down to the soldiers in Shujaiyya was to capture Palestinian homes as outposts. From these posts, the soldiers drew an imaginary red line, and amongst themselves decided to shoot to death anyone who crosses it. Anyone crossing the line was defined as a threat to their outposts, and was thus deemed a legitimate target. This was the official reasoning inside the units. I was told that the unofficial reason was to enable the soldiers to take out their frustrations and pain at losing their fellow soldiers (something that for years the IDF has not faced during its operations in Gaza and the West Bank), out on the Palestinian refugees in the neighborhood. Under the pretext of the so-called “security threat” soldiers were directed to carry out a pre-planned attack of revenge on Palestinian civilians. These stories join many other similar ones that Amira Hass and I investigated in Operation Cast Lead. The death toll that continues to rise is steadily reaching the numbers of the massacre of 2009.
More than 1,100 have been killed in Gaza, at least 80 percent of them civilians. Today it is cleared for publication that at least 4 soldiers were killed by a rocket in a gathering area outside of Gaza, and another soldier was killed in Gaza. They join 43 soldiers that have already been killed. We know that more acts of revenge will come soon and it is important that we not stay silent. This is the time to take to the streets and to social media. Demand from your representative wherever you are to stop supporting this massacre and to immediately boycott the state of Israel until the occupation ends, the blockade is lifted and Palestinians will be free. We all want to be in the right place at the right time when history knocks on our door, and history is knocking in Gaza right now. You need to decide on which side you want to go down in history.

In addition to being arrested and questioned, Efrati had both his Facebook and email accounts blocked and apparently received death threats aimed at keeping him silent. He wrote:

In recent days I was arrested by authorities and questioned about my research regarding the use of illegal weapons in Gaza, my mail and Facebook accounts were blocked, And I received strong hints that my life is at risk and I need to be silent and keep low. But I'm not going anywhere.
They may close my communication channels again, but that does not mean I'm not here, I'll find a way to get the information out to you,and I trust you will echo it on, go down with it to the streets ,And demand your representatives, your government to stop funding the slaughter in your name,to boycott Israel and to stop the bloodshed in Gaza. The whole world is watching now, history is being made.
I'm counting on you.

The Shuja'iyya massacre took place during intense fighting between Hamas forces and the Israeli military. The killing resulted in the death of 72 Palestinians, among whom 17 were children. It also resulted in the death of 13 Israeli soldiers.

The video of the wounded Palestinian who was shot by a sniper was released by the International Solidarity Movement and can be viewed below. [Warning: The video is graphic, viewer's discretion advised.]

The massacre was described by Amnesty International as tantamount to possible war crimes:

The continuing bombardment of civilian homes in several areas of the Gaza Strip, as well as the Israeli shelling of a hospital, add to the list of possible war crimes that demand an urgent independent international investigation, said Amnesty International.

[…]

The Israeli military said that Shuja’iyyeh, a densely populated area with some 92,000 residents east of Gaza City, had been targeted because it was a “fortress” housing rockets, tunnels and command centres. Israeli military and government officials have repeatedly said that civilians were warned to evacuate the area days before it was attacked.

However, many civilians in Shuja’iyyeh and other areas did not evacuate because they had nowhere to go. All the UNRWA schools and other facilities opened as shelters are overflowing. Issuing warnings to evacuate entire areas does not absolve Israeli forces of their obligations to protect civilians under international humanitarian law.

“The relentless bombardment of Shuja’iyyeh and other civilian areas in the Gaza Strip, as well as the continuing indiscriminate rocket attacks on Israel, demand urgent international action to prevent further violations. The UN should impose an arms embargo on all sides, and all states should immediately suspend transfers of military equipment to Israel, Hamas, and other Palestinian armed groups in the Gaza Strip,” said Philip Luther.

Medecins Sans Frontieres/Doctors Without Borders accused Israel of indiscriminate bombing:

“While official claims that the objective of the ground offensive is to destroy tunnels into Israel, what we see on the ground is that bombing is indiscriminate and that those who die are civilians,” said Nicolas Palarus, MSF’s project coordinator in Gaza.

At the time of writing, Israel's “Operation Protective Edge” has claimed the lives of more than 1,650 and wounded nearly 9,000 Palestinians. Israel says the assault is targeting Hamas for firing hundreds of rockets across the border into Israel. Seventy-five percent of the Palestinians killed in this offensive have been civilians. Since the offensive started on June 8, 62 Israeli soldiers have been killed in fighting in Gaza, and three civilians killed and around 400 injured in rocket attacks in Israel.

Besides being a member of Anarchists Against the Wall and the pro-BDS Boycott from Within, Efrati was a member of Breaking The Silence*, an Israeli NGO comprised of former IDF soldiers whose aim is “to raise awareness amongst the public about the reality of everyday life in the Occupied Territories.”

Here's a lecture he gave in Colorado as part of The Soldier and the Refusenik U.S. tour with Maya Wind a few months ago:

This is Israel's third military operation in Gaza in 6 years. Israel has bombed residential neighborhoods, schools, a playground, hospitals, shelters and refugee camps. On July 28, Israel attacked the only power plant in Gaza, plunging the congested strip of 1.8 million people into darkness. UN shelters are struggling to accommodate more than 250,000 Gaza residents who are fleeing the violence or whose homes have been destroyed by bombings. Six UN shelters have come under attack by Israeli forces. Excessive restrictions from Israel in the Palestinian territories of Gaza and the West Bank is why most of the world and the United Nations considers this territory “occupied” by Israel.

[*Editor's note: An earlier version of this story said that Efrati is a member of Breaking The Silence. He is no longer involved in it and has not worked with this organisation for four years.]

It would be terrible if it were true. But I very much doubt it.

I’d be surprised if the “evidence” is even equal in quality to the ISM amateur Hollywood style production on show here. That would make it garbage.

Seriously, a man gets shot and people stand around and watch? And film? Never mind you can see the fake blood container he is using. Never mind if he had really been shot by a sniper (even once) the sight would be a whole lot worse. Never mind that the producers won’t name him (so as to allow a check against casualty lists).

If you believe that video, you’ll believe anything.

And if Mr Efrati has real evidence as opposed to anonymous sources, let him reveal all.

    • Nanson Hwa

The overwhelming video evidence provided by Aljazeera English showing the slaughter of innocent civilians under the guise of destroying Hamas rocket launch site is appalling. The Zionist government and its Army of murderers have broken the commandments; thy shall not bear false witness against thy neighbors, thy shall not steal (annexing and stealing land), thy shall not murder, and thy shall not have false gods or graven images before me (Zionist worship Israel, orthodox Jews worship G_d).

      • Raanana Gamer

Do you have logic in your world? I’ll come back to that.

Did innocent civilians die? Yes. Why did they die? Because in war, the dreadful, nasty, horrible, bastard of a human invention, that’s what happens; time and time again. In this particular war, many died because they were unfortunate enough to be deliberately close to rocket launchers, per Hamas instruction, demand. or arrangement. So, if they were slaughtered – nice, emotive word, lacking context and sure to stir up incitement – they were slaughtered by Hamas.

Let’s be clear, in case you think otherwise. I did not and do not want a single loss of innocent life. But if you fire rockets at me or my people, reap as ye shall sow. (As they say.) You don’t want there to be a loss of innocent life? Stop firing the rockets. Simple.

Now this bollocks about commandments. And logic. On the one hand you say that Israel – I’m paraphrasing your language for the sake of decency – has broken commandments. Then you say that “Zionists” worship Israel, not G-d. Slight disconnect there. The commandments were G-d given, so it doesn’t make sense to refer to them when you say that Israel does not worship G-d. It only makes a perverted type of sense if you are a bigot and attempting to dress up in nice radical language the hate of Jews. But since you are no bigot, we can discount that, can’t we? Not sure where that leaves us, except to say that the only appalling thing in this conflict has been the way that many so-called western liberals have fallen for the war pornography that Hamas and its supporters have served up so as to demonize, deligitimize, and defame Israel. Fat lot of good that’s going to do anyone.

        • Nanson Hwa

“Let’s be clear, in case you think otherwise. I did not and do not want a
single loss of innocent life. But if you fire rockets at me or my
people, reap as ye shall sow. (As they say.) You don’t want there to be
a loss of innocent life? Stop firing the rockets. Simple.” The Zionists contends that Hamas fired over two thousand rockets and then some towards Israel. In a dense area like the Gaza Strip there isn’t enough room to store an inventory of 5 to 10 thousand rockets. If they had them there, why not fire them all at once? The anti-missile system operated by Israel would not be effective. What an arrogant and ignorant statement, “If you fire rockets at me or my people, reap what ye shall sow.” First you and your cohorts are made like the rest of us unless you were hatched. Every human life on this planet are equal in value. The only difference is ethnicity, culture, diet, religion, politics, values and priorities. You sleep, shit, breathe, sweat, procreate and eat like everyone else but arrogance and ignorance pervades your tribal mentality and blinds you to the truth. “Man must be sharpen by man like knife on stone.” Chinese proverb, 3000 BC

          • Raanana Gamer

I lost you there. But I did note an attempt to introduce one lie masquerading as fact:

“In a dense area like the Gaza Strip there isn’t enough room to store an inventory of 5 to 10 thousand rockets.”

I’m not sure if this is meant to be a cover for using UNRWA as rocket storage facilitators or what. But the image of the strip as a crowded urban jungle is misleading.

First, it’s by no means the most crowded place on the planet. I don’t think it even makes the top 10.

Second, if you care to look at the place – for example with Google Earth – you will see things commonly referred to as “fields” or “open spaces.”

In short, if Hamas wanted to fire rockets and minimize civilian casualties, it could. But that’s not what it wants.

And then there’s this straw man:

“First you and your cohorts are made like the rest of us unless you were hatched. Every human life on this planet are equal in value.”

I never said anything different. I don’t pretend to be better. I don’t pretend to be higher in value. I don’t have to pretend, because I know – as does the whole wide awake world – what value I place on life. And I know what Hamas’ idea of that is, especially when it come sto their poor, downtrodden, subjugated citizens. How I pity them.

Finally, try using paragraphs. They are suggestive of thought having taken place.

          • Nanson Hwa

Palestinians are in a prison, blockaded by Israeli military forces. They cannot exist their communities unless Israel wants them to do construction labor in building the luxurious hotels and facilities that the Zionists enjoy. You suspect fields and open spaces but do not know for certainty. Had their been rockets on the sites that were targeted, there would have been secondary explosions in which there was none…….only the killing of innocent unarmed men, women and children. For confirmation, see Aljazeera English.

          • Raanana Gamer

If Palestinians in Gaza are in a prison, it’s primarily a prison of the mind; a mental cage that makes them focus on hating Israel and Israelis. And it’s Hamas that put them there.

IThey do suffer from limitations on imports and exports, but not to the comically exaggerated extent that terror apologists promote. And if they had built a place of peace, instead of a terminus of terror, they would not be where they are now.

Reminder: the blockade is not only by Israel. It’s also by Egypt. Inconvenient fact, isn’t it?

I do not suspect open spaces and fields, I know they are there. I have not only seen them digitally, but by actually looking at them from outside the Strip. For heaven’s sake, get real.

No secondary explosions? That’s nonsense. There are plenty of videos kicking about showing demolition of terror tunnels, or attacks on missile launching sites, with clear, visible displays of secondary explosions.

Aljazeera? You mean the Qatari channel ? The funders of Hamas channel? I’m not inclined to trust that media. Many media outlets have an agenda. There’s not much doubt what Aljazeera’s is.

Q: What’s the difference between Bigfoot and a Hamas fighter in Gaza?

A: There are more pictures of Bigfoot, than there are of the Hamas fighter!

          • Usman

“First, it’s by no means the most crowded place on the planet. I don’t think it even makes the top 10.”

So it’s fine by you to bombard them with missiles, rockets and tank shells.

Out of curiosity, what are the top ten most crowded places on earth? Or do you have no clue?

          • Raanana Gamer

“So it’s fine by you to bombard them with missiles, rockets and tank shells.”

No. That’s not what I said. But I suspect you knew that.

“Out of curiosity, what are the top ten most crowded places on earth? Or do you have no clue?”

            People per Square Kilometer

            Calcutta – 24,718

            Hanoi – 23,342

            Paris – 20,246

            Athens – 20,235

            Seoul – 16,581

            Barcelona – 16,488

            Tokyo – 13,671

            Geneva – 11,200

            Naples 8,277

            San Francisco 6,685

            Jerusalem 6,045

There are several more ahead of Gaza.

Why did you think I had no clue? Oh, don’t answer that. I will guess.

          • Raanana Gamer

I already replied once, but it looks like there’s some form of censorship operating here. Given the alleged lead story, that’s ironic. (Polite mode still on.) I will try again.

As to your reply, I confess you lost me. I wasn’t sure what the point was. I did spot your attempt to introduce a lie masquerading as a fact:

“In a dense area like the Gaza Strip there isn’t enough room to store an inventory of 5 to 10 thousand rockets.”

            Nonsense.

First, it’s often said that Gaza is the most crowded – or one of the most crowded places on the planet. Rubbish. It doesn’t even make the top ten.

Second, if you take the time to actually look at Gaza – for example via Google Earth – you will see things we call “fields” and “open spaces.”

So, if Hamas wanted to avoid civilian casualties, or damage to infrastructure, it could. But that wouldn’t suit it.

            Then there’s this straw man:

“First you and your cohorts are made like the rest of us unless you were hatched. Every human life on this planet are equal in value.”

I never said otherwise. I don’t see any human life as being better or worse. I do see the value that people put on human life as being radically (sic) different. Hamas do not value human life; certainly not that of their downtrodden, subjugated citizens. How I pity them.

Finally, do try using paragraphs. It’s indicative of thought and makes the content at least easier to read.

          • Nanson Hwa

There is a distinct difference between nonsense and common sense in which you have none. Your attempt to apply logic to your argument only applies to concepts from out space and delusional thinking.

          • Raanana Gamer

So, in summary, you cannot argue against the arguments and you prefer to insult. That tends to happen when facts intrude on the life of Israel haters.

          • Nanson Hwa

No insults intend only truthful observations so the reader will take the initiative to correct erroneous interpretations of fact and seek therapy to adjust and correct a severe perception problem.

          • Raanana Gamer

If I were you, I’d call a halt now. All you are doing is confirming the veracity of my last post.

Please don’t. Although I have started feeling sorry for Nanson, it is rather entertaining. :-)

          • Nanson Hwa

It’s entertaining because you are unable to differentiate between fantasy and reality. Now I know why the Egyptian named Moses extracted the Ten Commandments from the Egyptian Book 99 Ways in how to Get Into Heaven…….he foresaw the coming of the Zionists.

Core Issues Between Israel and Palestine

            – Jerusalem, a holy center of the three world religions: Judaism, Christianity and Islam

Israel wishes to make Jerusalem the capital of Israel and the political
and religious center of the Jewish people, as it wrote in the 1980
Israeli Basic Law. Currently the holy city is under the control of
            Israel.

Palestinians want East Jerusalem to be the capital of
Palestine. The Old City in East Jerusalem contains a number of holy
places in Islam, such as the al-Aqsa Mosque and the Dome of the Rock.

            – Borders

Israel has expanded its territory through wars in the decades since
1948. It has agreed to maintain current borders with the West Bank and
the Gaza Strip as Palestinian territory, but Israel Defense Forces often
enter the two Palestinian areas for military purposes.

Palestinians want Israel to return all land captured in 1967. The West
Bank, East Jerusalem and Gaza are integral territories of Palestine.

            – Settlements

Israel has established many Israeli settlements in East Jerusalem and
the West Bank. To ensure the safety of settlements, Israel has set up
tight security checkpoints and built high walls to separate Israeli
            residences from their Palestinian neighbors.

            Palestinians hope
for all settlements to be removed, but understand it would be difficult
to change the status quo. They have also fought over water resources
            with Israel for decades.

            – Refugees

            Israel has
prevented Palestinian refugees of previous wars from returning to their
former homes in order to maintain a Jewish state.

            Palestinians
maintain the “right of return” according to UN Security Council
resolutions. Furthermore, they refuse to recognize Israel as a “Jewish
state” because a large number of Israeli-Arab citizens currently reside
            in the country.

            (Compiled by Beijing Review)

          • Raanana Gamer

You’re getting back on track now. No insults detected!

OK, let’s see what we have:

Jerusalem – Core issue, indeed. No argument there.

Borders – Also a core issue. No argument there.
Here, however, some points of detail are worth noting.

            You (or Beijing Review) say:

“Israel has expanded its territory through wars in the decades since 1948. It has agreed to maintain current borders with the West Bank and
the Gaza Strip as Palestinian territory, but Israel Defense Forces often
enter the two Palestinian areas for military purposes.

Palestinians want Israel to return all land captured in 1967. The West
Bank, East Jerusalem and Gaza are integral territories of Palestine.”

That first part is bordering (sic) on the disingenuous. Israel expanded its territory in the 1967 war. (And, the 1973 war.) But it gave back land, too. What remains is disputed. (Or, if you prefer, open to negotiation.)

I don’t think “agreed to maintain current borders” is right, but if I could see the source for that claim it would help.

And the part about “integral territories of Palestine” is always intriguing. What are the territories of Palestine?

Settlements – Core issue, also. No argument there. (Though how ‘core’ it is, is something of an open question.) I’ll leave to one side the use of ‘settlements’. However, there’s a lack of context in the total omission of reference to the reason for the security arrangements. That having been said, the issue is capable of being solved by negotiation.

Refugees. Now that’s an interesting one. It’s often the source of lies and misdirection form Israel haters.

Example: there is no right of return in law.

Example: show me a UN Security Council resolution that establishes a right of return.

Example: sloppy propagandists normally rely on General Assembly resolutions (like 194). General Assembly resolutions have no force of law. (Would you like countries such as Cuba, Syria, and Venezuela to decide your future?)

Example: some parts of GA resolution 194 are conveniently forgotten by Israel haters.

            (1) Jerusalem could not be the Palestinian capital because 194 says it should be a separate territory under UN control. Ooops!

            (2) Mount Scopus would be part of Israel proper. Double ooops!

            (3) It refers to “refugees” not “Arab refugees”. So, those descendants of Jews who were expelled from Gush Etzion, the Old City, and elsewhere would be allowed to live in their ancestral homes. Triple ooops!

            (4) There would need to be free access to Jewish holy places in Judea and Samaria. Quadruple oops!

            (5) It refers to refugees who are willing to “live at peace with their neighbours.” Hmmmm.

And, moving aside from 194, only in the issue of the Palestinians is it suggested that there is an inherited right of refugee status. Bollocks. Pure anti-Israel bias and hatred.

Everywhere else in the world, efforts are made to resettle and DEAL with refugees, so as to improve their lot. (Like the Jews who left or were kicked out of the Arab states and are Israeli citizens, and not refugees.) Only with the Palestinians, the poor Palestinian people, whose political representatives wanted them to stay as refugees for the sake of the cause, for the sake of the intended destruction of Israel. Dreadful.

I’m posting this separately, as it should stand on its own.

Your original post above – before you edited it, presumably – said this:

“You sleep, shit, breathe, sweat, procreate and eat like everyone else but arrogance and ingorance pervades your semite mentality and blinds you to the truth.”

You let the facade slip a little there, and let out a bit of undiluted bigotry. Oh how proud your supporters must be! Way to go!

          • Raanana Gamer

And now, magically, you have both versions of my reply to chew over. Do try and keep the hate in check though. It does you no good.

No hate involved, just disgust, disappointment and the truth as projected from your thought processes.

Chris, I want to remind you that you are doing exactly what the Zionists want us to do: conflating Zionism with Judaism. Zionism is a racist colonialist ideology, while Judaism is a religion. All Zionists are not Jews and all Jews are not Zionist. We, as anti-Zionist Jewish people, stand with the Palestinian people in our opposition to Zionism and the so-called “Jewish State.” Free, free Palestine!

    • Bert_1

So, what do you stand for? Are you anti-Israel?

        Absolutely. So there’s no mistake, I’m pro-Palestinian, pro-Jewish, pro-human rights, and anti-Zionist.

        • NiktheRed

I think a few ideas are being conflated here. Judaism is a religion, not a state. The state is Israel, and the people that populate it are Israeli. Being anti-Israel is like saying the state should not be allowed to exist, something I profoundly disagree with. But then again I do not think any state should be led by religious ideology. Being Israeli does not automatically confer the right of Judaism, and vice versa… or at least it shouldn’t. Otherwise you wouldn’t be able to have Muslim or Christian (or even atheist) Israeli’s. I admit to not being well-versed in the ideology of Zionists, but I do think that this state sponsored terrorism is compounded by the extremists on both sides, it is just that one has real military power and the other a guerrilla army. In between are regular people being slaughtered and good people being drilled with propaganda about the evils of their neighbors. However what is definitely the case is that the US is breaking its own constitution on this matter. With the illegal settlements encroaching upon Palestinian territory the US is in effect helping to promote religion through their funding, something expressly against the constitution. It is fine if it is private money, but the amount of aid the US gives Israel through its government is being used to promote religion as it is Israeli government money being used to build these settlements.

          • Karinrinkashi

But state of Israel was created on the basis of religion, please do not forget that. Even in the media, when the state of Israel is mentioned, it is mentioned as safe haven for the Jewish people. Even though Israel is portrayed as a Jewish state, it is far form true. In reality, Israel is a Zionist state, created by a group of White Jews who lay claim to the land of the real Jews (From the first 12 tribes). But these Jews have not even a single drop of blood in them that is Semitic. They come from the tribe of Khazar who accepted Judaism in the mid 700 AD to avoid pressure from the Christians (Byzantine) from the North and the Muslims from the South. They have no emotional or religious connection with Jews. They have just hijacked their religion and now are using at a vanguard for their attack on this world. And where you mentioned if the state should not be challenged for its existence.. Then what do you say about the challenge that the Palestinian Muslims are facing. They are not just facing a challenge to keep their land, but also facing a challenge to simply live! We are talking about a genocide here…

          • Chaim Ostrov

But state of Israel was created on the basis of religion. ZIONISM IS ACTUALY SECULAR! RELEARN YOUR HISTORY!

They come from the tribe of Khazar who accepted Judaism in the mid 700 AD- ITS TRUE THE KHAZARS CONVERTED INTO jUDAISM. NO ONE DISPUTES IT. EVERY RELIGION HAS CONVERTS. YOU CAN MAKE AN ARGUMENT THAT MUSLIMS ARE NOT PURE MUSLIMS JUST BASED ON YOUR REASONING. The MUSLIMS have not even a single drop of blood in them that is Semitic, FOR THEY ARE LOADED WITH FORCED CONVERSIONS. THE JEWISH RELIGION TODAY AND IN HISTORY HAVE THE FEWEST CONVERSIONS OF ALL RELIGIONS.

          • Karinrinkashi

I meant, it was created on the basis of religion as portrayed by the Zionists. They used religion to get it, but they didn’t really care about the religion itself. They just used it. That is what i meant. And Muslims don’t have to be Semitic to be Muslims. But Jews have to be from the first 12 tribes of Jews to lay claim to this land. Not every converted Jew can just walk in and call Israel their land. No! Because they weren’t there nor were their forefathers. Do you have any common sense?
What i meant by these Jews not having Semitic blood, and hence not have any right to Israel. By that i mean, they are converts who came from another region. They were never here before this time so can’t claim it. The only Jews who can claim Israel are the ones who come from the blood line of the first 12 tribes.
            Seriously, are you that stupid?.

Anyway who says Jews have to be part of the 12 tribes to way claim to the land. A Jewish convert has every right to the land of Israel as any pure Jew. The Old Testament mentions the convert numerous times to show that he is every part of being a Jew

          • Karinrinkashi

Every i read your new reply, i can’t help but get furious. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS THE LAND OF ISRAEL!
Israel, it is a word that is used to refer to the first 12 tribes of the Jewish religion. In Quran too, they referred to as the Bani-Israel. There is no such region known as the “Land of Israel”
That being said, if there is no region known as Israel then not every Jew can just stand up to claim it. Only the Jewish people who come from the first 12 tribes can claim it. Even they cannot claim it on the basis of religion, Jewish religion (Any religion for that matter) does not relate itself to any particular region, but more to the people of that region. So, the land can be claimed on the basis of origin rather than religion. I come from a Muslims background, i believe in Christianity, and Judaism as much as i believe in my religion. Our holy book recognizes these two religions. So why would i want make a black for them.
But, even if ignore this whole technical talk, what Israel is doing is wrong and they are committing a genocide there.
If we totally take a turn from this religion talk, you cannot ignore the fact that HAMAS was created by Israel to counter Al-Fatah. They are funded by Israelis and those hypocrite Saudis. And, so, they will operate from where Israelis will tell them to operate from. And now they are being told to operate from the civilian areas. If you don’t want to accept it then fine, maybe if Hamas does surrender then Israel will leave Gaza alone and let it be another separate entity. But i cannot stop but wonder, West Bank stopped the attacks many years ago, there is no “terrorist” organization operating there anymore. Why are Israelis still present there? And why has it not been given a sovereign rule even after all that??

          • Beverly Slapin

Nick, Israel is the only country in the world that says it has a “right to exist.” Can you imagine France, or Spain, or the US claiming that “right”? Of course not. People, not countries, have a “right to exist.” Israel claims that right because it purports to represent the world’s Jewish people, which it does not. Israel is an apartheid state: Muslims who are citizens of Israel do not have the same rights and privileges of Jewish citizens of Israel. There are Jewish-only roads, for example, and Jewish-only settlements, where residents have swimming pools while they steal the water from the Palestinian people. This is documented.

I’m going to try to upload a power point presentation (if I can) about Zionism so you can be more informed. These are actual quotes from Zionist leaders.

Just trying to clear up the ambiguity in your replies. At no time in these comments does she state that she is anti-Israel.

          • Beverly Slapin

Israel is a Zionist state. I am anti-Zionist, therefore I am anti-Israel. Clear?

          • Bert_1

It is clear that you don’t understand what you are talking about, yes. Israel is a state. It is incapable of being Zionist. People are Zionists.
Therefore, you can be Pro-Israel & Pro-Zionist or Pro-Israel & Anti-Zionist. I just wanted to find out what you are.

You have a problem with her opinions? She sounds like she Anit-ZIonist which is not at all equal to Anti-Jewish that in turn is not at all same as Anti-Semitic.

          • Bert_1

I differentiated between anti-Zionist and anti-Israel indicating that I believe the two to be different. I didn’t suggest that anti-Jewish and anti-Semitic are the same although common usage treats them as interchangeable.

TODAY YOUR BROTHERS AND SISTERS NEED YOUR SUPPORT!
THIS KIND OF RHETORIC ONLY INCREASES ANTISEMITISM.

          • Beverly Slapin

What increases anti-Semitism (against Jewish people) is the Zionist state, which claims to represent the world’s Jewish people, and therefore, its atrocities against the Palestinian people (Semites as well) are blamed on Jewish people.

          • Chaim Ostrov

I love the fact that you have deep sympathy for the Palestinian people.
That’s what being Jewish is all about.
But I sense you have hard feelings towards your own. You only state one side. In life there is two sides to a street. You stay on one side of the street not realizing there is another side.

          • Ameen Abeyta

I’d also love the fact she have deep sympathy for Palestinian, simply the fact that Palestinian have nothing to do with the suffering jewish people during world war, and another fact that all jewish, christians and muslims were living in hormony and equally treated back before 1948.

          • John Knowlton

“In life there is two sides to a street. You stay on one side of the street not realizing there is another side.”

Yes. And in Israel, only Jews can go on that street.

          • Boris Bernstein

so let me get one thing straight in your logic Bev, you are suggesting that Israel seize to exist and that the entire country of Israel will be combined with the west bank and gaza strip as one sovereign state? what do you think would happen to the Jews living there? are they going to be treated as equals to the muslims? or are they going to be shown the same respect ISIS shows christians in Iraq? what do you think would happen to the nuclear weapons Israel holds? are they gonna be safe and unused by the palestinian authority or are they going to be taken to Iran/Iraq/Syria and used against the western countries? do you think the LGBT community in israel is going to be treated equally or are they going to be behead like the Iraqis?
The saddest part of this entire thread is that no one cares to think about the next step, and what would happen if Israel is eliminated from the bigger picture, you’re going to have a nuclear war, and at best, christians in the US may survive due to distance, but europe is going to turn into a jihad state where islamists represent 99% of the population. Are you actually supporting this kind of world in your right (and hopefully sober) mind? kids, women, men, all died throughout history in every single war ever fought, the only difference today is that you hear about these ppl dying much quicker than it used to be broadcasted to the masses, so this shouldn’t surprise you or anyone, especially when the war is taking place in an urban setting. Had Hamas placed their bunkers and rocket in the desert outside of gaza (and there’s plenty of fields outside of the city) no civilians would have been hurt. So look carefully in the mirror and decide if you’re going to support those who store rockets in UN schools and next to babies cradles or those who are trying to create a better world without these extremists.

          • Beverly Slapin

This logic is so convoluted and reactionary and disingenuous and Islamophobic that I’m not even going to deem it worthy of response. Rather, I’ll quote Dr. Mads Gilbert, a Norwegian emergency surgeon, who recently returned to his country after treating Palestinian people, wounded during Israel’s murderous assault. Here is some of what he said:

“The Palestinian people’s resistance in Gaza today is admirable, it is fair and it is a struggle for all of us. We do not want a world where raw power can be abused, to kill those who struggle for justice.”

“This is not a battle between terrorism and democracy. Hamas is not the enemy Israel is fighting. Israel is waging a war against the Palestinian people’s will to resist, the unbending determination not to submit to the occupation! It is the Palestinian people’s dignity and humanity that will not accept that they are treated as third, fourth, fifth-ranking people. In 1938, the Nazis called the Jews “Untermenschen,” subhuman. Today, Palestinians in the West Bank, in Gaza, in the Diaspora are treated as Untermenschen, as subhumans who can be bombed, killed, slaughtered by their thousands, without any of those in power reacting.”

So, you can call me whatever you want, Boris, but I say this:

As a Jewish person, as a woman, as an elder, as a parent, I stand with the Palestinian people who are struggling only to live their lives as free human beings. I will always speak up for them and I will never desert them. Free, free Palestine!

          • Boris Bernstein

I’m sorry, but your theory is oblivious to reality, where Hamas would have, at best, raped you and shot you in the head if you are Jewish and live in Israel without the army holding the line between gaza right now. The fact the Norwegian doctor is supporting terrorism doesn’t mean anyone in their right mind should do so either, it’d contrary to your peace seeking goal. Have you ever even to been to Israel or gaza? You seem to forget that the “siege on gaza” didnt exist until the first intifida and many palestinians worked in israel and vice versa, but then similar “resistance fighters” started bombing israeli citizens, killing thousands for the sole goal of eliminating every single living jew in world according to their charter, so instead of siding with the enemy, i see no rational reason for not siding with Israel in its war against terrorist. The day israel stop fighting is the day terrorist wins and 9/11 will be the first of many, but you seem to think it’d be different with more people like ISIS, Boko haram, or the islamic brotherhood, not really sure how you get to the conclusion it’d be better with them… The last time a war happened it ended with arafat dead while his wife kept the hundreds of millions of UN, US and EU aid money they embezzled from the palestinians, and then a closure of the border; so it’d be the same this time with the Hamas leadership out and their families rolling in the money that should have went to the palestinian people. Israel is not against a two state solution, it has been very open about it too, but they do need to ensure another intifiada isn’t going to take place shortly after the borders open, thereby risking its own citizens’ lives and back to square 1.

          • Karinrinkashi

Is this a Zionist trying to give a talk of peace and love in the future? This is the age of media. Your words contradict what is happening inside of Israel. Should be believe your words, or the videos that come out. You talk about ISIS, and Hamas, and all the other organizations. They are terrorist organizations, right? You believe that, right? Why should a terrorist organization respect any faith or any human?
But you don’t believe that Israel is a terrorist country right? and the Israelis are not even close to having the same mentality, right?
Now, go and compare the landscape of Iraq/Afghanistan and compare it to the landscape of Gaza…
Now, sit down and think about this… On one side, the landscape is drawn by numerous terrorist organizations, and on the other side it is drawn by your beloved Israel. Looks the same to be, brother!
Now tell me, how should i see them as different??
            YOU TELL ME!

Honestly, what I’ve been wondering, is when are the people going to take back the power. We already had a revolutionary war. How can the American people stand by, and let this black imbecile, fly around the world, laundering masses of wealth, and embarrassing this country, globally?
