After the police shot Manuel Díaz, a 25-year-old unarmed Latino man on Saturday, July 21st during a chase in Anaheim, California, the community reacted with protests against police brutality claiming an increased violence against them. The details of the shooting are still under investigation. On one side, the police claims Díaz was a documented gang member that was behaving suspiciously, on the other, witnesses say Díaz was executed. Some netizens reported on the latter on Twitter, like Anti-Capitalist:
@OccupyAllSt:
#Anaheim police kills another man, witnessess claim he was handcuffed.http://rt.com/usa/news/boston-woman-punishment-officer-886/ …
And Buzzsaw, who explained:
@MillCityComic: Let's break it down 4 them real simple.
#SFPD &#Anaheim#APD -> When you shoot somebody dead who is in handcuffs, it's an#execution.
This video, uploaded anonymously, alledgely shows Díaz laying on the ground, a man yelling “he's still alive,” and the police trying to control the crowd instead of helping the suspect.
On the same day of the shooting, the residents confronted the police with rocks and bottles and they were harshly repressed. A video showing police firing on women and children quickly went viral and sparked a series of demonstrations against what some see as a pattern of police brutality.
@rotatingskull: If a police dog “accidentally” attacked an unarmed mother and baby then it should be put down. But we know it wasn't an accident.#anaheim
@curecanti:#Anaheim cops kill a citizen per month. Residents are protesting, so the cops have escalated to one per day.@FearDept
@HelloFrances: Why are there many videos of cops firing rubber bullets & yet none of “bottles & rocks thrown at officers”?#Anaheimhttp://latimesblogs.latimes.com/lanow/2012/07/anaheim-police-chief-concerned-officer-shootings.html …
@NewsVortex: Hmmmmmm. The Youtube vids for the Anaheim police assaults are being removed, even from
@Ocweekly and@CBSLA
@NewsVortex: Apparently, someone doesn't want you seeing the brutality of Anaheim police, who violated civil rights of Latino families. Vids vanish.
@JGfromOC: Dear
@NBCLA,@CBSLA &@ABC7, I understand the dedication to cover thing in Aurora, but y so little coverage of what is happening in Anaheim?
@F22Raptorace: Shoot women & kids? Sick dogs on innocent folks? Is it
#Afghanistan#Iraq#Syria. No its the#Anaheim Police Department…
@ThinkMexican: How can the United States condemn other countries for human rights abuses when this is happening in#Anaheim, CA? http://ow.ly/crpd0
