A column [es] written by TV celebrity Alejandra Azcárate [es] for women's magazine Aló, where she writes tongue-in-cheek about “the 7 advantages of being [a] fat [woman]”, prompted harsh reactions in Colombian social media this week. Blog posts parodying [es] the ‘7 advantages‘ [es] format or replying [es]to her text [es] have appeared [es], as well as an internet meme [es]. The magazine apologised [es] but Ms Azcárate said in a radio interview [es] that she won't retract [es].

I read Alejandra’s column. It is not doubt that she writes from the perspective of a young woman looking ahead at what her mature years will be. How many of us at 34 have look in dread the slowing down of metabolism, the baby fat that does not disappear, and how small amounts of food translate to pounds in those areas where a woman did not realized could reshape by themselves. Colombian women have been curvy and that has been our asset. Let’s celebrate it! As per Alejandra herself, girl you have so much writting potential! Use it in a constructive way…
