Trinidad & Tobago: The Government & Social Media

After a site was shut down because of concerns that its content may be in violation of the terms of the country's state of emergency, KnowTnT.com says: “It seems an opportune moment to explain to the Government of Trinidad and Tobago that on the Internet people have their own identities and express their own opinions – and that the closure of any site, any email list, any Facebook group…is folly because those willing to express their opinions will do so elsewhere.”

    Strike one website down, six others will pop up. It seems ridiculous to force the closure of certain websites just for that reason alone, much less the human rights implications.
