Nigeria: Tweeps Report And Discuss Post-Election Violence

This post is part of our special coverage Nigeria Elections 2011.

Nigeria's presidential election was held in on 16 April 2011. Goodluck Jonathan was declared the winner. Some observers including The Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) have alleged that the election was rigged to favour the incumbent.

Post-election violence erupted in northern states where supporters of Muhammadu Buhari attacked churches, homes and police stations. Gubernatorial and State Assembly elections in Kaduna and Bauchi states have been postponed to April 28. Elections in other states will take place on April 26. Human Rights Watch has issued a warning against Nigerian leaders while The International Criminal Court says it is investigating the crimes committed after elections.

This is a summary of reports and reaction from tweeps using NigeriaDecides hashtag. @zainabsandah wonders whether Nigerians elected a “slow-mo” government while @rotexonline wants to know if Nigerian police or state security use social media to communicate to the public.
