Cambodia: Population increase

Cambodia's 2008 Population Census has been released. The census shows the country's population increased from 11.4 million in 1988 to 13.4 million in 2008.

  • It would be interesting to know where the population has increased, too. Population is so political in Cambodia, in my opinion, because of the concerns over immigration from Vietnam, the issues of poverty and the feeling by some that there needs to be a greater numbers of Cambodians to counter their giant neighbors in Vietnam and Thailand. It is heartening to read about increasing literacy rates, though.
