  • “He has an Israeli Jewish mother and a Lebanese Muslim father and held Israeli citizenship at the time of his arrest.”

Wrong. Nessim Nisr’s mother was born a Jewish Lebanese, but she converted to Islam upon her marriage. Her name is Valentina Nisr (often spelled Nasser). You can see a photo of her, wearing a hijab and holding Nessim’s photo, here .

Nessim Nisr moved to Israel in 1991 (not 1982, as reported in the Lebanon Daily Star). He was born in 1967, which means he would have been only 15 in 1982. It is hardly likely that he immigrated alone to a new country when he was only a teenager.

You can read the whole story of his background in this article that was published in Haaretz.

Quote from article: “Nassar, 41, was born to Valentina Nasser, a Jewish woman who converted to Islam. In 1991, he immigrated to Israel under the Law of Return, reportedly as a means of improving his quality of life and not out of any sort of Zionist sentiment.”
