Fiji: US Laws and Fijian Blogs

Digital Fiji highlights a Fijian blog that is asking its readers to attack tourists in a bid to destabilize the military government. The blogger urges Fijian bloggers to be aware of the laws in the US where the blogging service is based. “act of publishing these posts violates several criminal laws in many countries around the world, including the United States.”

  • Since Global Voices had advocated the freedom of bloggers in Fiji, I think it failed to address the responsibility of those freedoms.

The write up on the issue of Fiji military tracking down bloggers was comprehensive, compared to this one. It does not even decry the use of blogs to promote violence.

Does this reflect fair and balanced coverage on Fiji blogs, when you select a few to comment on.

  • I agrre with laminar-flow, we should talk abut responsibilities too.Recently an Iranian blog put another bloger’s life in danger by revealing his identity. We just criticised provider that shutdown his blog.It is just like we say hey give gun to him and let him shoot who he wants!
