  i think giving knighthood to rushdie is a bit of political.but what muslims are doing these are too much.

  What was that the Chinese said about the cyclicality of history? Or that humanity was condemned to repeat the mistakes of the past without learning from them?

  I was fairly young, and unsurprisingly for that age, apolitical, when Satanic Verses was first banned. But now, as a (hopefully) rational, thinking adult, I cannot but help think that the current protests smack of the most tawdry acts of thought policing. Just as when MF Hussain’s art galleries were ransacked by the Hindu fundamentalist right, and more recently with the Chandra Mohan issue, this current round of protests is totally unjustifiable. The fact of the matter is, it is entirely the prerogative of the UK to decide who it wants to offer knighthoods to. For anyone else to take offense at that is particularly idiotic in general, but especially loathsome when you have people in corridors of power explaining that it could be used as an excuse to blow themselves up.

  And why is it that India still has in place the ban on the Satanic Verses? What kind of democracy is that?
