#SudanRevolts

Isolated protests [5] in Sudan first began [6] in early 2011, inspired by the Arab Spring [7] movement of the same time that saw protests and revolutions rock countries including Egypt, Libya, Tunisia and Syria. Demonstrators in Sudan were met with repression [8] by the authorities, which in turn triggered further unrest.
More recently in June 2012, students have been taking to the streets [9] over drastic rises in food and fuel prices as a result of the country's planned austerity measures. They have since developed into larger scale anti-government protests, which have been again restrained [10].
Some analyses of the unrest have labelled [11] it the start of the country's own ‘Arab Spring'; however, others dispute [12] similarities between the movements.
