The Global Voices site is a weblog using WordPress software, divided into 3 columns:
1. Weblog: the far left side
This section is for feature blog posts by all invited authors. Please see the Guide to Writing GV Weblog Posts for specific guidelines for what goes in that section. In short, however, this section is for longer feature posts about what bloggers in a particular country or region may be concerned with.
The Weblog is not the place to put short, single-link items. Such single-link posts are for the middle Global Links section. (See below.)
2. Global Links - the middle section.
Here a group of Regional Editors is given the responsibility of posting 5-10 links per day, rounding-up the most interesting conversations coming off the blogs in their regions.
Please do not post to the Global Links section if you are not one of those people.
We need to keep an even daily balance among regions of the world in the Global Links section. The only way to achieve that is to have a small number of people acting as “editors” for that section. If you would like to suggest roundup links please send them to globalvoices DOT dailylinks AT gmail DOT com.
All methods of dividing up the world are by definition artificial, but we needed to have some way of dividing up responsibility among a limited number of people with limited resources and limited time. Our current funding enables us to hire the part time regional and language editors listed below. (Note: They are paid a very small sum for what is largely a labor of love.)
We have divided up the world into the following regions:
Caribbean: Georgia Popplewell: caribbean AT globalvoicesonline DOT org
Caucasus & Central Asia: Nathan Hamm: nathan AT registan DOT net
Eastern & Central Europe: Veronica Khokhlova: cee AT globalvoicesonline DOT org
Latin America: David Sasaki: americas AT globalvoicesonline DOT org
Middle East/North Africa: Haitham Sabbah: mideast AT globalvoicesonline DOT org
North East Asia: Tian Yi (not currently reachable, see: www.freehaowu.org); acting editor John Kennedy: northeastasia AT globalvoicesonline DOT org
South East Asia: Preetam Rai: southeastasia AT globalvoicesonline DOT org
South Asia: Neha Viswanathan: southasia AT globalvoicesonline DOT org
Sub-Saharan Africa: Sokari Ekine: africa AT globalvoicesonline DOT org
The Regional Editors will also help to coordinate the posting of feature posts by volunteer bloggers in the various regions. This is to help ensure that the weblog posts don't overlap or conflict, that there is a regular flow of posts, and that we are not missing important things taking place on the blogs that require special attention.
We also have the following language editors:
Arabic: Haitham Sabbah: mideast AT globalvoicesonline DOT org
Chinese: John Kennedy: northeastasia AT globalvoicesonline DOT org
French: Alice Backer: francophonia AT globalvoicesonline DOT org
Portuguese Jose Murilo Junior: portuguese AT globalvoicesonline DOT org
Russian/Belarusian/Ukrainian Veronica Khokhlova: cee AT globalvoicesonline DOT com
They cover blogs written in the above languages and post both global links and longer feature posts.
3. The right-hand column links.
These are the usual resource links - fairly self-explanatory.
