Global Voices guide to posting a podcast

Podcasting is one of several areas being developed by Global Voices. A team of GV editors, authors and associates is in the process of formulating a set of guidelines for Global Voices-branded podcasts produced by podcasters from around the globe. If you are interested in participating in these discussions, we invite you to join the Global Voices Podcasting Google Group.

Here are the basic instructions for posting an audio file on the Global Voices blog:

1. Compose your post as you would a normal weblog entry (the Guide to Posting on GV outlines the process). It's a good practice to include in your post a text link to the audio file so that visitors to the site can also access the audio file by clicking on the link, as in the following example:

2. Insert a reference to the audio file in the “Custom Fields” box by following these steps:

a. Select “enclosure” from the pull down menu.
b. Insert reference (link) to your audio file. This may be an external link or you may choose to upload your file to the Global Voices server. (If the file is hosted externally, make sure and confirm that it will remain lodged at its location permanently).
c. Insert size of audio file
d. Insert type of audio file (if file is an MP3 this is “audio/mpeg”)
e. Click on “Add Custom Field” button.

3. Check “Podcasts” under the “TYPE” category, along with any other relevant categories (again, see the Guide to Posting on GV for details):

4. Publish your post.
