Malaysia
Fuel is more expensive in Singapore than in Malaysia and, according to H J Angus of MalaysiaWatch, it is not uncommon for Singaporeans to drive to Malaysia to fill up their gasoline tanks. But Malaysia is now considering imposing a fee on all foreign cars entering Malaysia to effectively prevent foreigners from enjoying the subsidized fuel rates. Angus thinks the proposal will backfire on the Malaysian economy.
Thailand
Thai bloggers Bangkok Pundit and Bookish are still discussing the turnout in the parliamentary elections. Bookish thinks that the legal status of the spoiled ballots will probably end up in court. Meanwhile, caretaker PM Thaksin Shinawatra has gone on national television–what Bookish calls the first mover’s advantage to announce that his Thai Rak Thai Party has won 60% of the votes cast–a figure that the Election Commission has not confirmed.

Cambodia
KI Media in Cambodia has an English translation of a news story about an 18-year-old woman who jumped off a bridge in a suicide attempt. Rescued by fishermen, the young woman told the police “she did not want to live because she has no job, no money, and nothing to eat.”
Thailand
Parliamentary elections in Thailand are unique. Bangkok Pundit cites section 74 of the election law that says there is no such thing a a sure win for an unopposed candidate–he must get at least 20% of all eligible votes. Voters who want him to lose can cast a “No” vote instead. There are some voters, however, who exercise their right to vote differently. Some write messages like “Thaksin get out” on their ballots. A political science lecturer opted to tear up his ballot in front of the TV cameras. Newshound in BKK has a photo and a write-up on the latter.
Philippines
Karaoke singing is so popular in the Philippines it is almost like a national sport. It's fun if you're doing the singing but Noisy, Noisy Man didn't enjoy it one bit when his neighbors held a karaoke party, with booze, until 3.00 a.m.

Asiapundit quotes Singapore Ink's post based on a Channel News Asia story that political candidates cannot use podcasting in their campaigns. Photos of the candidates, party histories and manifestos are the only permissible forms of political advertising on the internet.

Rambling Librarian knew that his father once played for the Singapore national basketball team. He did not know, nor did he ask for, the details, not being particularly close to his father. Then he had an opportunity to write for Yesterday.Sg, a Singapore heritage group blog, and decided to interview his father. That was when he found out that not only did his father play basketball well–his father is an important part in Singapore's amateur basketball history.

On the cancellation of Feelin' Good, a party organised by gay and lesbian media and events company Fridae, Mr. Brown quotes and links to conflicting statements from Fridae and the police. Fridae says the Ministry of Sound informed them that the police demanded the cancellation of the event because it would “promote gay activities”; the police says they merely advised the Ministry of Sound to address possible traffic problems.
Indonesia
Indonesia Today says the armed forces is so powerful that it has amassed its own business empire that include interests in luxury hotels, golf courses and commercial banks. The military has promised to divest itself of such interests. The sale of its share in one of these banks is valued at US$15 million.
