New Palestinian Village Bab Al Shams Established in East Jerusalem

As part of the popular resistance movement in the Palestine, a group of about 250 Palestinian activists established the new village of Bab Al Shams or “The Gate of the Sun”, on a piece of confiscated land in Eastern Jerusalem, referred by Israeli authorities as “Area E1“. Despite an eviction notice from the Israeli army, the activists plan to spend the night in the tents they have set up there.

The news channel Al Jazeera recently broadcast a documentary on the mysterious death of Palestinian President Yasser Arafat in Paris on 11 November, 2004. The documentary alleges that rather than dying of natural causes, Arafat was poisoned with polonium, raising many questions.

This year for the first time the Palestinian Festival of Literature was held in Gaza. A group of about forty Egyptian, Tunisian, Sudanese and Palestinian authors, artists and activists were granted permission to visit Gaza and participate in PalFest 2012 from May 5 to 10.
