Myanmar: Mandalay YadanarPon Market Fire

Myanmar bloggers are posting photos and reports of fire outbreaks in two major cities, Yangon and Mandalay. Nearly 3000 people have become homeless due to fire at Hlaingthayar, Yangon and damages are yet to estimated for Mandalay's YadanarPon Market fire.

Fiji

Jonathan Segal, a Fiji-American, blogs about his views on the current American election. “If I was living in the US, I’d be sick and tired of hearing about the elections all day… While in Fiji, however, I can explore in my own time without experiencing the political-fatigue commonly associated with listening to candidates speak.” He also makes a good review of how each candidate uses digital media to convey their message across.

Burma Sitmone urges fellow Burmese to start a radio campaing for Free Burma, “There are wonderful young and energetic Burmese bloggers who have been posting very relevant and interesting opinion in Burmese language … it would be very lucky if these posts are read by one percent of Burmese staying inside the country”. He feels “that this is the high time to start radio campaign for free Burma, as radios are cheap, easily available for majority of Burmese staying in rural area of Burma”.

Blogger MgHla posted the photos of “Mr & Miss Valentine” competition that he attended on the Valentines' Day. He also complaint about having to leave the show early and couldn't get to see the winners for the sake of keeping the curfew issued by the Missus back home. One of Mandalay model-bloggers also competed in the show.

Hidden Message To The Burmese Junta Published In MyanmarTimes Newspaper

An ad appeared in Monday's edition of Myanmar Times talking about Myanmar's tourism and its appeal to tourists from Scandinavia . The normal looking ad actually had a hidden message targeted at the ruling junta in Myanmar. Myanmar bloggers posted their reaction to the ad.

Non-profit organization, The Searchers, has successfully attained the certificates for the first ever Basic Leadership Skill Training program given to them. Melody Maung posted some of the photos of the event.

\Steve Evergreen wonders why most part of Burma doesn't get a regular supply of electricity while billions of dollars are made from gas sales. “Forget about small towns in Burma. Even in large cities like Yangon and Mandalay, electricity supply is very irregular.”

Singapore's Myanmarese Go Online for Double Taxation Petition

Myanmar residents abroad have to pay an additional tax to the Myanmar government in addition to the tax they pay in their host countries. Failure to pay this this tax results in Myanmar embassy denying them consular services. Myanmarese residents in Singapore are using their blogs and other online means to get support for a petition to avoid this double taxation.

Moe Moe wonders why her cousin asked her to send him a remote control car for his birthday because of the Government decision on banning such toys. “Strange thing to ban toys, really, to stop terrorists from bombing more things in the country. I mean, everyone knows the government itself has been known to set off bombs just to scare people and seriously, why not ban soap as well while you are banning things.”
