Puerto Rico: “Revuelo,” a Beautiful Commotion

A stunning view of the sky woven with 500 kites covers the central patio of the National Gallery (Galería Nacional) in Old San Juan, the colonial city in the capital San Juan. “Revuelo” [es] (Commotion)-the name given to this breathtaking artistic and architectural project- is the proposal of the architects and designers Doel Fresse and Vladimir García that won the contest of Ephemeral Architecture convened by the Institute of Puerto Rican Culture, the National Gallery and the Gallery Espacio-Temporal. “Revuelo” is a temporary installation that can be viewed until July 2012.

Revuelo sumerge al espectador sumerge en una experiencia visual, auditiva y táctil que celebra nuestro trópico y la manera en que nos interrelacionamos con este, mientras reafirma nuestra identidad de pueblo.

“Revuelo” immerses the viewer in a visual, auditory and tactile experience that celebrates the tropics and how we relate to it, while reaffirming our identity as a people.

The architect and photographer Raquel Pérez-Puig, who documented all the stages of the installation process, has shared some of her lovely photos with Global Voices. Here we present a selection, a feast for the eyes!
