Ethiopia: Powerful and Political Church Patriarch Dies
The head of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Abune Paulos, has died aged 76. Abune Paulos, spent the last two decades as the sole figure of the popular Ethiopian Orthodox Church leading 40 million Ethiopians (half the country's population.) His death has sparked a debate on religion and politics and re-triggered speculation about the whereabouts of Prime Minster Meles Zenawi.

Ethiopia: Muslim Protest Gaining Momentum
Ethiopian police resorted to physical violence against Muslim activists, transgressing sacred places in their mosques, the Muslim activist Facebook group, Dimtsachin Yisema (Let Our Voice Be Heard), reports. Since May, Ethiopian Muslims have been protesting the government’s meddling in their religious affairs.

Ethiopia: G8 Summit Casts Fresh Light on Ethiopia
Netizens have stepped up their effort to draw attention to Ethiopia’s independent media situation as the G8 Summit approaches. Ethiopia's Prime Minister Meles Zenawi and three other African heads of state are expected to attend.
