On April 7, 2012 the Union for Unemployed Graduates staged a protest in downtown Tunis. When the protesters attempted to break a ban on demonstrating on Habib Bourguiba Avenue, the capital's main avenue, police used tear gas and batons to disperse them.

Morocco: Girl Forced to Marry Her Rapist Commits Suicide

Amina, a 16-year-old girl from Larache in northern Morocco, who was forced to marry her rapist, chose to put an end to her life by swallowing rat poison. Amina's story deeply touched, and outraged Moroccan netizens, who have been using the Twitter has tag #RIPAmina to mourn the young girl.

Today marks the 7th death anniversary of Zouhair Yahyaoui, an award winning Tunisian cyber activist who was detained during the regime of Zeine El Abidin Ben Ali. He passed away after facing serious health issues due to torture, and police abuse while he was in prison. In tribute to his sacrifice, March 13 is being celebrated as the National Day for Internet Freedom in Tunisia, starting this year.

Tunisia: Court Quashes Verdict Ordering the Filtering of Pornography

Today, the Cassation Court of Tunis (highest court of appeal) threw out a verdict to censor pornography on the Internet. On May, 26, 2011, a court of first instance issued a ruling ordering the Tunisian Internet Agency (ATI), to filter X rated websites. At the time, the decision was criticised by by bloggers, and free speech advocates, who believed that such step could limit freedom of speech, and thus pave the way for the return of censorship. Today's decision received a more favourable response online.
