Indonesian Activists Remember Slain Human Rights Defender Munir Said Thalib

This month marks the 11th year since Indonesian activist Munir Said Thalib was killed by suspected military agents.
Munir was found dead on a Garuda Airlines flight from Jakarta to Amsterdam. An autopsy revealed his death was caused by arsenic poisoning. Three persons were later convicted but many believe that high ranking officials who ordered the killing have not been brought to justice.
Munir was a prominent human rights activist who exposed the abuses of the government during the last years of President Suharto in the 1990s. He was also actively campaigning against the atrocities committed by the army in Timor Leste. He died on his way to Amsterdam where he was enrolled to study international law.
Friends of Munir held a memorial in New York to mark his death anniversary. Meanwhile, the Twitter hashtag #11tahunMunir was used to remind the public and the government that the quest for justice is not yet over. In Amsterdam, a street was named after Munir.
