Syrian blogger and journalist Assad Hanna, who is also a Global Voices author, was attacked and stabbed four times in the stomach in his home in Istanbul, Turkey, last night.

On Facebook, Hanna, who has been receiving various threats online, reports:

I was attacked in my home last night by an unknown person who stabbed me in the stomach four times. I was treated in hospital and and was just released. I don't accuse anyone but I cannot say it was a coincidence as the assailant knocked on the door, attacked me and did not steal anything from the house. I have been previously threatened by different factions.
My health is fine and I filed a police report

Hanna, from Homs, is also a human rights defender and has been working as a freelance journalist since escaping his war-torn country.
