In relation to the abdicaton [1] announced by Juan Carlos, King of Spain, Adrián Yánez recalls history [2] [es] and other abdications in the Spanish kingdom:

Carlos I era el nieto de los Reyes Católicos. Fue el hombre más poderoso de su época y en 1556 decidió abdicar. Dejó a su hijo Felipe II la Corona de España. A su hermano Fernando lo postuló como emperador del Sacro Imperio. Después de eso se retiró al monasterio de Yuste, donde lloró la pérdida del amor de su vida, su esposa Isabel.

Charles I was grandson of the Catholic Monarchs. He was the most powerful man of his era and in 1556 he decided to abdicate. He left the Spanish Crown to his son Phillip II. He nominated his brother Ferdinand as Holy Roman Emperor. After that, he retired to the monastery of Yuste, where he moruned the loss of the love of his life, his wife Isabella.
