Australia has a change of government. Labor Prime Minister Kevin Rudd's brief return ended on 7 September 2013 with the election of Tony Abbott's conservative Liberal/National coalition. Michael Taylor, a staunch online advocate of Labor, reflects on life under the new government in his post Should I really care who governs Australia? It is probably no surprise that his answer is Yes: “I only hope the new government cares about the people that I care about.”

I think it is important for the new democratically elected government to be given a change to fulfil its mandate to the people of Australia, only time will tell if this government will really care about the people. Indeed there are a lot of positives we can draw from this victory and the way the elections went. Unlike what we keep reading about in other parts of the world where the result are usually not accepted by all and it takes a lot of time before the actual work start. We have seen this in the African countries whereby the courts intervene to legitimise elections and the focus on the actual work the government needs to do moving forward is lost in the process.
This is what Leopold Donchield Zu Leone II refers to when he talks about the need for the regime change in West Africa with the adoption of the constitutional monarchy system. He argues that with constitutional monarchy system in place, there are opportunities that bring about, political freedom, political stability, sense of belonging, boost trade and investment, promotes unity and accountability and economic development.
