Independent Turkmen Website Hacked

Chronicles of Turkmenistan (www.chrono-tm.org), the website run by Turkmen human rights activists in exile, has been hacked [ru] for the third time this year and remains down. Catherine Fitzpatrick on Different Stans blog suggests that the “way too important” website was hacked by “Turkmen Secret Police”. She also lists alternative social media where the authors of Chronicles of Turkmenistan post content.

I wrote this: “Again, this site is way too important to let it be victimized so that
someone can make them an object lesson for their security training
    workshops”

You know, like the kind that Global Voices runs? That sort of thing.

And…scare quotes on the “Turkmen secret police”? The Ministry of National Security. There I wrote:

“And yes, it’s certain that the Turkmen secret police hacked this site.
Do you know anyone else who would care about a Turkmen exiles’ site
enough to hack it? Okay, then, let’s stop the pretend-impartial
    speculation.”
