The Japanese prime minister's office has opened an account [2] [ja] on LINE, an instant messaging application for smartphone and PCs, to provide useful information to citizens, such as disaster information in case of emergency.

LINE is ran by NHN Japan, a subsidiary company of Korean Internet giant NHN. The PM's Office also uses other social media including mixi [3]Twitter [4]Facebook [5] and YouTube [6].
