A new website that connects people in one-to-one exchanges about global culture, streams headlines from Global Voices in their news section as conversation starters. Härnu encourages people in different countries to ask and answer questions about foreign cultures.

Are all new from Global Voices published on härnu, or only selected ones?

  • Solana Larsen

Hi Ika, they use our global RSS feed in English so it’s all of them. You just see the beginning of the post and can click on to Global Voices or “discuss”.

Yep, we take all of them, and parse them out by country and then serve up the relevant article depending on where someone has scrolled, zoomed, or selected on the map. In our sorting, we try to give priority to Global Voices content over content from Google News depending partly on how recent the GVO content is for a given location.

I have suggested they use Lingua feeds to display when a user marks another language as their language, but they haven’t taken it on board it seems ;( Don’t you think it would make much more sense?

    • Solana Larsen

Would be nice! But I imagine that might be tricky, technically.

Hi Paula – thanks for the note. Local language content feeds is a really neat option and I can see us reviewing that properly in the future. Candidly though, we’re still working on a long list of somewhat basic features at the moment. I’ll keep you posted on progress. Thanks.
