On the second anniversary of violent clashes between ethnic Kyrgyz and Uzbeks in southern Kyrgyzstan, a ‘Peace Bell [1]‘ [ru] has been unveiled in the city of Osh as a monument for those who died and as a symbol of reconciliation. The bell contains the inscription ‘Peace in the Whole World’ in Kyrgyz, Russian, and English. But there is no similar engraving in Uzbek. As Matthew Kupfer writes [2] on Registan.net, the lack of an Uzbek inscription on the ‘Peace Bell’ demonstrates that Kyrgyzstan's government has failed to acknowledge that the country's Uzbeks also suffered during the unrest.
