Colombia: Football Federation Rejects ‘Bolillo’ Gómez's Resignation as Head Coach

Álvaro González, Vice President of the Colombian Football Federation, said the Federation has not accepted the resignation of Hernán Darío Gómez [Eng] (‘Bolillo’) as head coach of the national football team which ‘Bolillo’ presented after hitting a woman outside a bar (‘El Bembé’) in Bogotá. Furthermore, according to press reports, the Federation plan to confirm him as the head coach once the U-20 FIFA World Cup, which is being held in Colombia, is over.

On Twitter there's been all kinds of comments under the hasthags #Bavaria, DT de Colombia, #Bolillo, #Leonel, among others. Radical positions, messages of support and various jokes have been published. Colombian netizens not only speak of the incident, respect for women or the lack of action by football directors like Luis Bedoya, but also of the future head coach, citing Juan Carlos Osorio or Leonel Álvarez as possibilities.

Media, blogs, and websites are still discussing the matter to exert pressure on the Federation and the sponsors. But there is also another sector of the country that supports the permanence of “Bolillo, arguing that his actions were not work related.

Gloria Gómez in the coment in  a post on equinoXio says that she supports ‘Bolillo':

Todos nos podemos equivocar, reconocer y mejorar para que no afecte su vida Ni a la selección.
