As the new seven member state cabinet of Kerala is to be sworn in on Wednesday the 18th of May 2011 there are no obvious signs of celebrations across the ranks.
In the recent State Assembly Elections when the results were out on 13th of May 2011, Kerala was in the brink of creating history. The state has a long standing tradition of voting against the governing party. This time the race was very close, the winning party had to satisfy with just a few more additional seats for the 140 strong State Assembly. The UDF (United Democratic Front) won 72 seats and the LDF (Left Democratic Front) won 68 seats. Kerala is a highly politically active state, democratically electing the second Communist Government in the World after San Marino.
The lackluster victory has dampened the spirits of election watchers in the Internet world as well, as there are very few mention of both the victory and the defeat.

പുറത്തു പോകുന്ന സർക്കാരിലെ മത്സരിച്ച മന്ത്രിമാർക്ക് കിട്ടിയ ഭൂരിപക്ഷം അവരുടെ പ്രവർത്തന മികവിനുള്ള സാക്ഷ്യപത്രമായി. ഭരണ വിരുദ്ധ വികാരമില്ല എന്ന വാദത്തിനു ഇത് അടിവരയിടുന്നു. 2006ൽ തോറ്റ മന്ത്രിമാരിൽ കുഞ്ഞാലി കുട്ടി, മുനീർ, രാമചന്ദ്രൻ മാസ്റ്റർ, ഇ ടി മുഹമ്മദ് ബഷീർ തുടങ്ങി ഒരു നിര തന്നെ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു എന്നതു സ്മരണീയം.

UDF നു ആഘോഷിക്കാം, അഹ്ലാദിക്കാം, പക്ഷേ മറക്കരുത്…അടുത്ത അഞ്ച് കൊല്ലം ഏതായാലും LDF കൊണ്ടുപോകും എന്ന മനോഭാവത്തോടെയുള്ള പ്രവര്‍ത്തനം മാറ്റി, ഒന്നാഞ്ഞു പിടിച്ചാല്‍ അടുത്തത് കൂടി ഇങ്ങ് പോരും. വഴി കാട്ടിയ LDF നു നന്ദി!

ജനം ഇത്ര പക്വതമുറ്റിയവരായി മാറിയെന്ന് പതിവു ജാലവിദ്യകളുമായി തെരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പു ഗോദയിലെത്തുമ്പോള്‍ ഇവരാരും കരുതിയിരുന്നില്ല. അതാണ് പ്രതീക്ഷിച്ചത്ര കിട്ടിയില്ലെന്ന് ഉമ്മന്‍ ചാണ്ടിയും പ്രതീക്ഷിച്ചിടത്തോളം എത്തിയില്ലെന്ന് വി.എസും ദീര്‍ഘനിശ്വാസമയച്ചത്. ശരിയായ ജനവിധി ഇതാണ്. ഒരു നൂല്‍പ്പാലത്തിനപ്പുറവുമിപ്പുറവും നിറുത്തിയുള്ള കളി. ഓരോ ഇഞ്ചിലും സൂക്ഷ്മത പുലര്‍ത്തിയില്ലെങ്കില്‍ തെന്നി അഗാധതയിലേക്ക് പതിക്കുമെന്ന ഒരുള്‍ക്കിടിലം ഭരണാധികാരികളെ നേരെ നടക്കാന്‍ പ്രേരിപ്പിക്കും.

വിവിധ രാഷ്ട്രീയ കക്ഷികളും സമുദായ ശക്തികളുമൊക്കെ ചേര്‍ന്ന്‌ പരാജയപ്പെടുത്താന്‍ ശ്രമിച്ചെങ്കിലും മിക്ക രാഷ്ട്രീയ കക്ഷികളെയും പരാജയപ്പെടുത്തിക്കൊണ്ട്‌ കേരള ജനത ഈ തിരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പില്‍ വിജയം നേടിയിരിക്കുകയാണ്‌. കേരളത്തിന്റെ പൊതു മനസ്സ്‌ ഇടതു പക്ഷത്തിനൊപ്പം നിന്നെങ്കിലും അതംഗീകരിക്കാനോ ജനങ്ങള്‍ക്കൊപ്പമെത്താനോ ഇടതു മുന്നണിക്കു കഴിഞ്ഞില്ലെങ്കിലും വിജയത്തിന്റെ കാര്യത്തില്‍ ജനങ്ങള്‍ മുന്നില്‍ത്തന്നെയാണ്‌.
To the utter dismay of the innumerable number of parties and the various flavors of religious influences who tried to snatch away the electoral process, the people of Kerala has finally won. The common man has stood with the Left politics but the Left parties couldn't comprehend it completely and they lost.

കേരളീയ സ്‌ത്രീ സമൂഹത്തിന്റെ പരാജയം
കുഞ്ഞാലിക്കുട്ടിയും ജോസഫും ഉള്‍പ്പെടെയുളളവര്‍ വന്‍ ഭൂരിപക്ഷത്തില്‍ വിജയിച്ചു. വോട്ടര്‍മാരുടെ കൂട്ടത്തില്‍ 50 ശതമാനത്തിലധികം സ്‌ത്രീകളാണെങ്കിലും എംഎല്‍ എമാരുടെ കൂട്ടത്തില്‍ അഞ്ചു ശതമാനത്തോളമേയുള്ളൂ സ്‌ത്രീകള്‍.
The historical defeat of the communist party in West Bengal, the massive victory of Jay Lalitha in Tamil Nadu and the saving grace of Kerala all sends out a clear message to the political parties. People are fed up of the usual gimmicks of money and muscle power; they are rejecting corruption and speaking up finally for their rights. Politicians kindly take note.
