China: New Avatar theme song inspired by forced evictions

Building on what many Chinese viewers saw in the American film Avatar, “the spitting image of the violent demolition in our everyday life,” a group of video and song mashup artists, Zhou Hongtao, Gong Kaijie and singer Lizi, released online yesterday a spoof of the movie's theme song, an imagined Chinese version titled ‘Eviction in the Open‘. Despite the lyrics, there doesn't seem to be anything to suggest that anyone involved in the project has been forcibly evicted from their home.

(Note: This video loads very slowly outside China, which is why we have made a backup here)

Eviction in the Open‘:

拆掉我的家,被逼着离开
内心受到伤害的我死都不明白
明明是我财,要求不能开
只好看着强制拆迁令眼泪掉下来
保护百姓的“法律”法律不存在?
没有背景的人群自己买棺材
拆迁不是谁想拆,想拆就能拆
合理补偿给我理由不然请滚开
我那合法的财产不容你毁坏
中华民族的土地容不下腐败

Tore down my house, forced me to vacate
So hurt I am by this, can't even tell if I'm still living
Clearly it's my property, not that anyone cares
Could only watch as they forced us out, down my face roll tears
Laws to protect the people, they don't exist?
If you don't have powerful friends, you just bought your coffin
Doesn't matter if you're willing to move, they'll tear your house down if they feel like it
Give me adequate compensation, give me a reason, or get the hell out
This is my legal property, I won't let you demolish it

Doesn't matter if you're willing to move, they'll tear your house down if they feel like it
Give me justice, give me fairness, give it to me openly
Laws to protect the people, they don't exist?
If you don't have powerful friends, you just bought your coffin

Doesn't matter if you're willing to move, they'll tear your house down if they feel like it
Give me adequate compensation, give me a reason, or get the hell out

(repeat)

Commissions welcome

In between verses, this scrolls across the screen:

希望拆迁悲剧,不在地球上发生

Let's hope the tragedy of forced relocation, won't take place here on earth

And at the end of the clip, the message ‘the planet is in danger’ appears, along with a contact QQ number for the mashup artists: 261902385.
