Edward Bernays was the nephew of Sigmund Freud and an early public relations professional.  He wrote a book in the 1920s titled _Propaganda_ which Joseph Goebbels admired and learned from.  I met him a couple of times in his old age when I tried to arrange a televised conversation between Bernays and Noam Chomsky about propaganda and the news.  Bernays was all for it until he read Chomsky&#039;s book _Manufacturing Consent_, a play on Bernays&#039; own book _Engineering of Consent_.  Then he refused to participate and the project died.

Interesting that his work is the inspiration for a band in Macedonia.</description>
