This is crazy. I’m 16. Still a virgin, but made some decisions I’m not proud of. I agree that we need to be educated befor we reach di age where we get thrown into dis environment where our bodies become the best ting since hard dough bread. It has to be a continous process doe. It can’t be like one day Mama say, Listen Marsha sex give disease and you mus stay in school an nuh get pregnant u hear? No! Der has to be a communication with parent and child continuously. We have to feel comfortable sayin so and so touched me inappropriately today and I don’t like that. We have to talk to mommy and daddy otherwise we can’t turn to anyone else except that boy who says he understands and then is the same one trynna push us to have sex after we trusted him. at 16 we shouldnt have to be goin thru dis and there are younger kids goin thru worse

These alarming anecdotes and stories remind us of the need to educate girls and young women, showing them role models and giving them the encouragement they need to succeed. Completing secondary education is a proven factor in women’s empowerment and reducing salary gaps and other gender inequalities in the workforce. Currently, women in Jamaica earn about 0.57 of their male counterparts.
