Father Gerard Jean Juste was my classmate at the Lycee Antenor Firmin until the
Baccalaureat 2eme partie or Classe de Philosophie.
He was always a man of great integrity and fair. He was a very social person who cared
a lot for the poor and those who are abused .
The actual candidate for Prime Minister Mr Gerard Gousse is responsible for the persecution of Fr JeanJuste during the reign of the de facto regime of Latortue.
As a the Justice Minister , Mr Gousse worked to persecute Jean Juste for the simple reason that he was on the side of the poor Haitians.
We do not want him as the Prime Minister for the Martelly government. He does not belong in any government.

Please, set the record straight as to what the Catholic Church did to Father Jean Juste. Which of his followers would Jesus allow to stay in jail unjustly without lifting a finger to help?

Father Jean Juste, after he was beaten by mourners at a furneral by right-wing Haitian elements of the immoral rich class, was unceremoniously excommunicated by the Catholic Church. He was only restored AFTER HIS DEATH.

A Catholic Church official in the Miami Herald: “‘The jail time, the illness brought a lot of wisdom,’ (Rev. Reginald) Jean-Mary of Notre Dame said. ‘I wish he had developed it earlier.’”

This baldface condemnation and attact of Pere Gerry for the time he spent unjustly accused as a political prisoner in a foul Haitian prison for seven months. This awful circumstance led to his fatal illness! He was rushed to a Florida hospital in critical condition after having contracted leukemia in jail.

Why didn't the Catholic Church speak up when he was beaten and thrown in jail unjustly?

Why didn't they speak up when he asked for their help to be released while he languished without charges in jail - the charges eventually being dropped?

When he asked to leave a Florida hospital while critically ill and dying for non-payment of his hospital bill where were the pious Catholics then?

I doubt that even the kind, gentle and caring Father Gerry would appreciate the Church's attempt to exploit his death with their self-serving back-handed *praise*. Father Gerry's colleagues at Veye Yo and the Haitian community certainly don't.

Thanks for covering Father Gerry's death, Global Voices. I posted a podcast on my blog yesterday remembering him, featuring interviews with two of his attorneys, that folks might be interested in listening to. http://mediahacker.org
