have had a discussion with a senior World Bank official at a different atmosphere. He has suggested to me that we should make submissions to the World Bank against this project including the dodgy EIS (Environmental Impact Study).

The first EIS submitted by India at the beginning of this project was faulty and the WB rejected that one. Later India submitted another EIS and I believe with many inaccuracies. I suppose we can expose them to the World Bank and Communities for the sake of fairness, decency and justice

Construction of Tipaimukh Dam will drastically change the Topography in the North Eastern Region of India including Bangladesh. 0ne-third of Zeliangruang Naga’s land will be submerge in the water. All the legendary lakes, water falls, rivers will be gone. Thousands of people will be displace. Is this Government of India called ‘development for the people’? What is being democracy for if the Government do not hear the peoples’ voice!

There is no way to avoid this situation.Everyone is Bangladesh should raise their voice against this dam. Those who are in favour of this dam, please come to Rajshahi and watch the effect of the farakka dam, so that they can understand how dangerous this dam could be.The effect of Tipaimukh dam may be more than a nucleaer explosion because the effect of nuclear bom decreases by time while the bad effect of the tipaimukh dam will increase day by day till the last day of the earth.

It’s a big problem for our country as well as some parts of India. Environmental devastation will be occur if the dam is built. i want say that the government and the people should go ahead to stop the dam construction, otherwise all of us have face many environmental,social, economical and political problems.

this issue is not only politically prblm is our national prblm.

Tipaimukh barrage will create problems of natural flow of water to Manipuri as well as Bangladeshi areas no doubt. But the Indian Govt has planned to execute this dam giving subcity to Manipur ( Mula hanging, bengali proverb). We should work togethet to protest the building of Tipaimukh Dam. Thanks

There is one other point that is not being discussed. How long will it take for India to fill the reservoir initially? Judging from the size of the dam, it might take anything from 1 to 2 years. What will happen to the Surma-Kushiara-Meghna during this time when water will be blocked to fill the reservoir?

Resource hungry Indian entrepreneurs would do anything for a mighty dollar. The compliant politicians would do the same. Then what will be the future of nature, the environment, indigenous population, indigenous flora and fauna? Because these groups can’t afford lobby groups and are lacking in having a fat cheque book!

This dangerous project will have severe impact on nature, the environment, the indigenous population, indigenous flora and fauna, including the people of the region and beyond. The adverse impact on fish stocks, food production, water ways transportation, clogging the arteries, rise of arsenic levels, and many basic things of life that we got it for granted.

Similarly, the impact of Tipai Mukh Dam will be worse than Farakkah.

Whether Bangladesh will be benefitted or not is for Bangladeshis to decide. Why did India say no to the proposal of a joint impact assessment downstream by a panel of experts?

In fact, it has been shown that the large hydro electric dam will:

1. Disrupt the natural rhythm of the river and have a negative impact on agriculture and fisheries in the greater Sylhet region – affecting food security.

2. Increase river bed erosion and drop ground water levels.

3. Increase flooding because when there is big flood India will open the sluice gates.

4. A tsunami will happen if an earthquake hits the dam. And the dam is on a quake faultline.

water minister in bangladesh . hope u and ur govt. will not make any dam in tipaimukh. if u make this problemetic project there . bangladeshi people never accept this kind of project. our request is pls don’t make any contruct with india which one to fail u in next election . so if u want to go next turm in power in bangladesh govt. pls stop this project as soon as posible.

remember, for farraka dam how much we r suffering in bangladeshi people.

Tipaimukh is a national issue. Because of numerous bad impact over Bangladesh
