I must admit I made the same mistake. My bosses sister in law, Hien took me around on bikes and motorbikes and taxis for a few days. Finally I just had to ask "why don't you wear your mask at night". The answer was simple "the sun is not out at night" Another one was "Why do you traditionally eat hot boiled soup/pho even on hot days and even for breakfast?" ---- "Let me show you our traditional refrigerator" Of course there was none.
