Apart from the Government sponsored pogroms against Tamils over a period of 61 years, in 1956, 1958, 1977 & 1983, presently Sri Lanka’s mono-ethnic Sinhalese security forces have attempted to physically destroy Tamils in whole or in substantial part through killings/disappearances; infliction of serious bodily injury on tens of thousands; creation of punishing conditions of life, including starvation, withholding medicines and hospital care, humanitarian aid embargoes, bombing and artillery shelling of schools, hospitals, churches, temples; and the displacements of more than 1.3 million civilians into camps, which were then bombed and shelled. Families are separated and children as young as 13 are held separately in abandoned houses stripped naked. This degree of mayhem on an ethnicity is clearly Genocide without doubt

Sri Lanka is the only country in the world where Tamil is an official language. All government documents; School texts and public signs also contain Tamil. Even India with 70 million of the worlds 100 million Tamil population has not gone this far. Sri Lanka as free health (on par with standards set by developed countries) and free education with one of the highest literacy rates for a developing country in the entire world. University education is based on competitive public exam entrance, and in 2005, 19 % of the undergraduates in public universities were Tamils. (Tamils make up 16.5% of the Sri Lankan population). In 2003, Colombo, the capital of Sri Lanka alone held 272,583 Tamils, versus the entire Eastern (claimed to be Tamil dominion) Province which has 110,796.
