  This is a sad day for humanity when a blogger can be jailed for airing his opinions, and ultimately die in prison while suffering from psychological problems. No matter how cruel the Iranian government behaves, the drumbeat of progress and free expression will continue. To Omid Reza Mir Sayafi and all who believe in free speech, we will win.

  This is indeed a very sad day. I’d like to express my most sincere condolences to Omid’s family and to all Iranian bloggers and citizens. I’d also like to thank projects like global voices, advox, cpb etc… for bringing these stories and cases out of their anonymity and helping shine the necessary attention on them. People like Omid are putting their lives on the line to express their ideals, and the least thing we can all do is to amplify their message.

  As Carmen said above, Omid Reza Mir Sayafi and all who believe in free speech, we will win.

  No leftist would ever tell you that Iran is heaven on earth. Who are you listening to? Ann Coulter? And seriously, since when has truly freeing people involved external military strength? The strongest way a country can be helped is by its own people, who can only be free to change their country if they are inspired by the freedom we enjoy. “Freeing Iran” as we’ve “freed Iraq” only feeds their regime’s notions that we are totalitarian bad guys trying to take over their country, their culture and their resources.
