[...] After visiting Cameroom, Pope Benedict XVI arrived in Luanda on Friday March 20th for a 3-day visit ending his first African tour. He will return to Rome tomorrow morning. This was the first papal visit to Angola since 1992, when his predecessor John Paul II came and asked for the end of the civil war (1975-2002). Over 60% of Angolans are believed to be Catholic, a religion introduced in the country by Portuguese missionaries in the 16th century. Paula Góes has collaborated with and translated this post.
Hi Steve,

Just to clarify, Global Voices is not hosted by Harvard. It originally began as a project of the Berkman Center at the Harvard School of Law, but it is an independent organization incorporated in the Netherlands with editors and authors around the world. Neither writers nor editors of Global Voices are employees of Harvard.

Best,
Solana

George,

I understand that Global Voices is also hosted by Harvard University. I didn't realise that meant that we were targets for their employees.

Travis Kavulla, who has a Harvard email address (and quite a Google profile) added the following to my blog:

"Anyways, love the blog. Its politics give me something to roll my eyes at, and its bizarre-o personal edge (is this, too, a characteristic of blogs, learned sir?) has that self-righteous, dislocated-NGO-worker pathos that I find downright quaint."

He also appears to have an issue with my (lack of?) education.

Thanks Harvard.

Indeed Steve,

I just realised the Post has been taken off and the link is now broken. At least, your blog will confirm that the post and the debate in sparked were real.

The "Impossible Missionary" has now removed the post - there is not even any mention that it ever existed - and is own apologies for his post are gone too.

Easier just to pretend it never happened I guess.
