To Chan #21

Yes...I believe everything is on a continuum as opposed to being dualistic, and I believe that is what you are saying as well.
There are many shades of grey between black and white, on paper. Through a prism, there is only the spectrum of colors that make up "white" light, and, as you said, only the absence of light creates black, or darkness.
Again, we are all connected. There is no "them" and "us." This realization among all peoples will lead to understanding and peace.

Debi S #18,

Like darkness is simply a lack of LIGHT, fantasy is a lack of REALITY, evil is a lack of GOOD and falsehood is a lack of TRUTH.
As above, so below; as below, so above.

Access to bullog.cn, where quite a few comments against this video were posted, is blocked in China since last week. The video itself, on the other hand, can still be viewed... Doesn't that says quite a lot about the approval of Chinese leaders and controlled media of this glorious video?? But as a French I must admit that the importance given to us here is quite flattering...

To Knights, R. Elgin & others:
Taking pride in one's country and heritage is a good thing. But when it becomes Nationalism, in the sense of fanatacism, then it follows the road of religious fanatacism, which only leads to hatred. Any kind of fanatacism is based on "Us vs. Them," and we can see the results all over the world in Israel/Gaza, US/Iraq, Shiites/Sunis anywhere, the Congo and other countries throughout Africa.
Until we all start believing, and behaving, as though there is only "Us," i.e. human beings who prefer peace and contentment to war and suffering, we will be stuck in this vicious circle of violence, mistrust, fear, and war.
We are all related. We all bleed red blood. We all love our children. We all need clean water to drink, clean airto breathe, and decent food eat in order to survive and thrive.
Please, readers/bloggers -- consider these things as we write to each other from around the world. We have writers here from China, the U.S., France, Germany, and other places.
Could we change the world a little simply by being gentler with each other here online? And by broadening the dialog, perhaps, from this one incident to similar problems we see around us each day? This video is only one blatant example of things that occur daily in all of our countries. To conclude, again, nationalism in its worst form is as dangerous as any other form of fanatacism, and should be nipped in the bud. If this had happened years ago, Hitler would never have been able to create the nightmare that he did.

. . . I do support to teach kids the value of education, respecting elder, and protecting the “One China” policy for the better of whole China. We need to be soft to our countrymen, but tough on foreigners (not with hatred through) who try to rape our motherland.
Ahhh, it's those damned foreigners raping the motherland again! Naturally the CCP is against that too.

When in doubt or trouble, nationalism is a panacea for poor government.

It reminds me of the french bashing in the US on the eve of the Iraqi war.
Basically, a gouvernement can have you sing wathever he wants.
All he has to do is push that nationalist button.
As a native frenchspeaker, I also find this obsession with France quite flattering.

Teaching children to hate is wrong, and I am strongly against it. Anyhow, it's just a one school teacher incident and it's his/her free speech, and it does NOT represent the whole Chinese population, so get over it.

To Howard:

What you said to Jay may be true, but I believe it is up to people like us to say that no matter where it occurs, teaching hatred is wrong.
And for the most part, it is the governments and their military accomplices that do the things that people hate so much...it is not the people of the countries themselves.
I would say that mothers throughout the world would rather live in peace and treat each other repectfully than perpetuate hatred, ignorance, and cultural misunderstandings. It is our children that die in wars, terrorist attacks, and gang violence.
Look at any place in the world where violence is occurring, and I'm sure you will agree that civilians suffer the brunt of violence (all of which is born of hatred...all of which is caused by ignorance, fear, and misunderstanding).
Education and sharing of knowledge, through blogs such as this, does much more to help the world than teachers indoctrinating youngsters into hate.
