Filipinos are unleashing online vitriol at Mayor Nasser Pangandaman Jr., son and namesake of President Arroyo's agrarian reform secretary, who reportedly mauled two persons last Dec. 26 at a golf course in Antipolo City.

Vicissitude witnessed the incident and could not hide the shock and disgust that she saw her own father and younger brother beaten black and blue by purported “public servants”.

A lot of politicians have been lording it all over in cases of graft and corruption which is already unforgivable, now here they are lording it over, as if they own the world, as if they can go over the law, as if they can just maul and poke their guns on people—the old and the young, and the very old and the very young.
Misteryosa described the incident as “appaling” and “just about the most outrageous things I’ve ever heard this year”, and laughed at news that the Mayor actually received an award for “effective leadership”.
Random Detoxification is angry at the Pangandamans and the officials of the golf club where the incident happened:
What's worse than a group of armed politicians beating up an unarmed old man? The management and staff of a golf club who were there THE WHOLE TIME and did NOTHING! Nothing but watch and then afterwards tell the beaten up family to LEAVE!!! The old man was bleeding and half-unconscious but no doctor was called, no assistance offered. Only an order to leave the premises. As if the old man and his children were the perpetrators of the crime and not the victims.

What fuels my outrage — apart from the violence of the incident itself — is the fact that it happened in the first place. Monsters would not be able to do this if they weren’t so confident in the protection of their power; if they were not so absolutely certain they would get away with it, eventually. There are people who say that punishment is not a good deterrent for crime: I say it is, as long as people know that the punishment will be meted out regardless of the status of the offender. This… is not the case here, where the rich get away with everything from rape to murder and former presidents somehow find a way to re-establish their positions in power despite charges of plunder. Ours is a system that fosters injustice.
And I refuse — I refuse — to simply accept this. I refuse to say, “this is the way things work, we just have to survive and hope we don’t get crushed by the unfair system.” We don’t have to tolerate injustice. Acceptance, resignation, apathy — these things will just propagate it. But we need people to actively fight against it. We have voices, we have eyes with which to see, ears with which to hear, hands with which to write messages the world can see. Time to make use of them.
Mistervader writes:
I can't believe the gall of these people. I don't care if you're powerful, or influential, and I don't care how much clout you have. When you commit something this atrocious, you deserve more than just a slap in the wrist for it.
It's high time we stopped allowing people like these from getting away with their shenanigans, acting as if they are above the law. I have nothing but vile words to spare for them, and I have no sympathy for them whatsoever.
Let's see what happens next, and whether the elder Pangandaman gets to keep his post as cabinet secretary and what would happen to the case to be filed by police on Monday.

Put28192873!
These two public officials are a shame to their constituents. Dito pa nagkalat sa Metro Manila. From a very reliable source the De la Paz story is true. Mga walanghiya sila pa may gana mag counter sue. They are liars too. Ganyan ba ang mga taga Lanao del Sur. Doon na lang cla maglaro ng golf wag dito. Truly a shame not only sa mga taga Lanao but to the whole nation. How i wish we don’t have creatures like them.
Why did the people of Lanao Del Sur ever voted for these motherfuckers, wala na ba kayong ibang mapapagpilihan.
what happened was just a re-run of many similar incidents in Phil society. The politicians and their families are the lords as they say and act “Kilala mo ba kung sino ako, ako ang mayor na nandaya sa eleksyon at nanalo”, “Kaya kong bilhin ang buhay mo”, “Isang bala ka lang” and many more.
Let us not muddle the issues. Fact: The de la Paz’ and Pangandamans were at the Valley Golf and Country Club, Antipolo City on Friday afternoon of December 26, 2008 playing golf. A misunderstanding that led to verbal tussle and physical contact ensued between the parties. Your guess is good as mine as to who actually provoked or started the fight because we were not there when it happened. The version of Bambee de la Paz cannot be taken, hook, line and sinker simply because she’s the daughter of Delfin de La Paz and of course her brother’s keeper. While she was present during the incident, she cannot be expected to be objective. As in fact, she used her blog to present her version and expose the Pangandamans through trial by publicity.
But it’s totally unfair to conclude that the Pangandamans who happen to be holding Cabinet post (the father) and elected mayor (the son, who was awarded “Most Outstanding Mayor in August 2008) would be the aggressors simply because they are in power. Why don’t you first check the track record of both the Pangandamans and see if they have had any record of abuse and violence in their personal and political life. I am saying this because I know Mr. and Mrs. Pangandaman and their children. They are low profile. You would not even know that they are in power when you meet them. They are highly educated people to say the least. Being the son and grandchild respectively of the first Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, I can vouch that they are well-bred people. As to the so-called “armed bodyguards”, why don’t you verify first with the Club management or staff or anyone present at that time and check if indeed the Pangandamans were accompanied by “armed bodyguards”. The truth is, JR was accompanied by his cousin and older brother Hussein.
Both parties have already reported the incident to proper authorities as they both intend to file charges regarding the incident. But let’s not muddle the issues. While it may be true that there are abusive politicians and/or people in power, the Pangandamans are definitely not one of them. Let’s not fall prey to dangerous and fallacious statements. Dangerous biases and prejudices lead to further conflict.
Before drawing our judgment, let’s first consider the facts as supported by evidence and then arrive at our fair conclusions.
If you are a public official and really want public service, in any conflict their fault or not, they should be the first one to understand and remedy the situation. Remember, tax payer pay for your salary.
The hell, As a mayor he should give prestige to his city but sadly, he taint it… So sorry for the people of masiu. Any tourist out there who would want to visit his city?
