Dan - I don't agree, the Palestinian elections were deemed legitimate. The subsequent 'coup' may not be so democratic.

I agree, HAMAS does a lot of harm.

There is no democratic process in Palestine, only abuse and fear. Hamas has done more harm for its people then Israel ever did.

Yes. I think being free as a Jew is enough - I don't need any more privileges than those already given to me in any democracy.
I was born in Israel and feel connected to the land, the people and the cultures - I wouldn't have it any other way. As long as I can live in a democracy here I don't mind if there are more or less Arabs. By the way, in Israel's first parliament the second biggest party (mapam) was for a dual-nationalities state.

Yarden - I am wondering about your last statement, that you believe "it's possible to have one democratic state for both nationalities. ".

Are you saying you would accept an end to the Jewish State?

Resisting occupation is one thing.
Killing innocent people is another.

Palestinian resistance fighters are referred to as terrorists since they don't target army forces and structures - they target civilians. I support the ending of the occupation. I support most of the things the Palestinians ask for, but that doesn't make me or my family safe from suicide bombers or in the case of Shderot, missiles.

Lastly, Israeli leaders expressed readiness to end the occupation and were even elected for it but instead of coming to talk with Israel the Palestinians elected Hammas which attacks us ever since. The Hammas doesn't ask us to end occupation. It asks that we no longer exist.

I really wish Israelis and Palestinians will learn to get along but for people who want this to happen, it's crucial to understand both sides are at fault here. I still believe it's possible to have one democratic state for both nationalities.

Katica:

Please define a “just peace”? If it is a two-state solution then I agree with you.

Except the people calling the shots, the democratically elected HAMAS does not agree. They have repeatedly made it clear they do not want a Palestinian state next to Israel, they want all of Israel. The decision has always belonged to HAMAS.

There is an occupation going on for decades. How can Israel not expect resistance? During second war and most other cases of occupation, resistance fighters were celebrated as heroes. Why are Palestinian resistance fighter referred to as terrorist?

Until there is an occupation there will be resistance. That is a human nature. If America would be occupied and Americans would be daily humiliated subject to check points and their freedom of movement would be controlled by the occupier, you think Americans would just accept it quietly? No there would be resistance, there would be violent resistance. Would the fighters be called terrorist? No they would be celebrated as heroes.

Unless there is a JUST peace, with economic base supporting a viable Palestine, there will be resistance. Why is Israel not seeing it? Unless they actually want the entire Palestine as a great Israel and this is just considered as a necessary period. Who knows what the Israelis think, and want, but the situation deteriorates and the real just solution is slipping away day by day.

Right now it seems Bibi is going to be Israel's next prime minister. Even though I really dislike him I think he'll probably be about the same as Olmert on the issues presented here. I don't know anything about the Palestinians' elections - I really hope Hammas will go down but from what I know right now it doesn't seem probable.
