Its interesting that Arab's (and Iranians) judge just about every American politician based on their views of Israel, yet it is rarely mentioned about their own leaders.

With the exception of Mahmoud Abbas, can you imagine a politician running in one of the regions' democratic countries on a platform that includes a different attitude towards Israel? Maybe a "pro-peace with Israel" Lebanese prime minister? How about a 'lets hold talks with Israel' platform in the upcoming Iranian elections? I don't think an Iranian politician can even use the word "Israel", lest they be disqualified by the Guardian Council.

Instead we see the same old recycled rhetoric from all of them.

Dena,

Do you really believe that Obama was elected for change in the Middle East? Change in our illegal occupation of Iraq, yes, absolutely...but Obama has no intention to change anything between Israel and Palestine.

Gitanjali,

Yes - if bloggers comment on those elections, Global Voices will certainly cover it. If you see any blogs discussing those topics, feel free to e-mail me the links.

It is interesting to speculate the effect that recent US elections will have on the Middle East. Personally I too have certain reservations about the change in approach that the Obama administration might have towards more hardline elements in the region such as Hamas or Iran.

But there are several upcoming elections in the ME that are equally important while considering change in the region. For instance, Israeli, Lebanese, Iranian and Palestinian elections. Surely somebody should comment on these elctions as well!

Born in Damas: "I have not seen much reaction in the US media about it nor much outcry in international places maybe because the Americans are a bit embarrassed and do not know what to think about this ‘incident'"

No you aren't going to hear much in our mainstream media. The American people had no idea it was going to happen, and can not control a rogue president. President elect Obama will not take office until mid-January. Until then, all we can do is brace ourselves for whatever Bush is going to do next.

Maysaloon: "So all that has happened is that America has made people ‘feel good' again, so that they stop caring about what it really does, since nothing will change in the Middle East on their own admittance."

I wish we, as Americans, could stop caring. One of the main reasons that Obama was elected was for change in terms of the Middle East. Obama is not a neo-con like Rumsfeld, Cheney, and Wolfowitz are, but once again Bush is still in the White House for now.

Wow, a whole country represented by three bloggers.
What a sad story, their opinions do not reflect the pupolace views since they are only three of them.
This country is govern by fear, like Kazaghestan and couple of other countries in the world, no TALK from inside or outside.
Sad state of Affair
