The Serial Blast in Assam and Guwahati has proved that all the securuty measures taken up by the authorities are nothing but a sham. The Assam Chief Minister should be ashamed as he was seen smiling while addressing the media immediately after the serial blasts. The Health Minister and the Forest Minister of Assam are trying their best to cover up the incident and protect the culprits. On 29/10/08 a day before the serial blast occured, a govt sponsered farewell for the Haj pilgrims was organised in the city at Nehru stadium. All vehicles entering Guwahati for this occasion were allowed to enter the city without the mandatory police checkings. The Jehadis used this opportunity to drive in the explosive fitted and laden vehicles into the city and other blast sites. The next day i.e. on 30/10/08 was the day when all hell broke loose at 11.20 AM onwards. The SDO, Sadar who is a hench man of the Health Minister is also equally responsible for the blast. There is no doubt that the SDO, Sadar enjoys the patronage of the above politicians. The SDO, Sadar's arrival at the blast site at Ganeshguri after the blast resulted in the immediate issuing of Police Firing orders leading to immediate choas. This particular individual has got a reoutation of formenting trouble where and when ever he is deputed. The Beltola incident, the FCI Godown incident are a few examples of his inefficient way of tackling issues. While disiplinary action is taken against other officers including the previous DC of Kamrup, this particular SDO, Sadar is allowed to go scot free and no action taken against him. The Anti social elements have gained strength and confidence with the patronage of such corrupt politicians and govt. officers. Mere action against the extrimist are not enough. Due action against such corrupt politicians and govt. officers should also be taken.

Just recently I came across a number count. Something like 63 bombas have hit all over South Asia (India and Pakistan included) over this year 2008!

I think it is important to recognize the history of bomb blasts and the riots which have led after the violence. So much of this has been forgotten and mostly, not really investigated either!

There was an interesting article in Hindustan Times today about the "Riots and Wrongs" and past bomb blasts from the 1980s-90s. There's a lot to learn from this:

For now.. peace to all!
