I used to live in Tokyo so I really appreciate this story and the local reaction to Nikes out of control branding tactics. I just posted some videos on Utube with interviews about my work here in Eugene, Oregon trying to get Nike out of my old neighborhood-Moss street. re: russ – i think protests should target BOTH governments and corporations; the fact that such multinationals “give back to the community” (as governments do also, no?) is mostly a PR stunt and it’s quite unfortunate that such trend is nowadays ‘normal’ in the US

re: maike:many big cities have similar “homeless problem”, but it cannot and should not be solved by such unilateral selling of public spaces, IMHO

Consider that you should make your signs and banners in protest to your Government not Nike. Many companies with financial resources would do this sort of marketing. Nike does give back to communities through out the world.

Which, at the present time, you cannot do in Miyashita Park, unless you want to hang out with the homeless.
