I think the problem with the science is that it is still *prediction* even if it is with complete accuracy. Actually if it were complete accuracy, shouldn't I see the moon when they say I should see the moon on a night with clear skies?

I was glad for the extra day but I know at least one masjid here (more I'm sure) (Trinidaid and Tobago) started fasting on Monday.

Allah is Al-Rahmaan. He will forgive our shortcomings. Moonsighting is sunnah. At the time of the Prophet (S) there were available calculations, but due to their unreliability at the time, the Prophet said to look at the moon then break and keep fast. This year, because of the confusion, my sister and I fasted on monday, while the rest of my family started on tuesday. If I was early, then may Allah count it as a nafl fast on my behalf. extra credit ;D

exact, i aprove what comment 1 said, another hand the hadit said, 'man raa minkom achahra falyasom' that means the one who see the moon will start fast! one of you means one of muslims so it should be all the umah, or all the islam nation, at once.

Well actually even if the scientists can predict it accurately. Muslims are required in Sunnah to wait until they see the moon because in the Hadith the prophet said: Fast when you see it (the moon). It's considered an act of worship in itself!
