Itching for Eestimaa writes about an Estonian Olympics champion Gerd Kanter and last night's song festival that “served various functions”: “Ostensibly, it was a celebration of the 20th anniversary of the major events of the Singing Revolution. But it was also a celebration of independence on the eve of the 17th anniversary of the restoration of independence, as well as a show of solidarity in light of the ongoing conflict between Russia and Georgia.”

I saw a movie recently, “The Singing Revolution” and learned more about Estonia than I had ever known. I find it amazing how a people decided to unite over music. I wish I had the ability to witness this Revolution in person some day. I’m an American. I’m a veteran. I know what freedom is, and I know the cost to defend it. America is perhaps the greatest country in the world; we could become even greater if we began to appreciate what we have, being content while doing good towards all people regardless of race, religion, or nationality.
